We had Foretravel of Nacogdoches replace both of our waterpumps last April.
They worked fine up until sometime last week. The wife commented that she
thought that she had been hearing the water pumps running continuously for
several minutes. Oh oh, I thought, empty water tank and a faucet running
somewhere; maybe a leak? Nope. Tank is full and faucets all secure. No leaks
anywhere. Cycled all of the pump switches on/off. The pump would turn on/off
but no suction, no increase in water pressure. Crawled into the pump area to do
a visual/feel. Only the top one runs but no suction. The bottom one won't even
run. Anyone been there? Thanks.

I've been there enough times to prompt me to rip out the two shurflo's

with accumulator tank and replace the whole contraption with one shurflo

extreme 5.7 gpm constant pressure pump. No looking back. :-)

I did the same thing -- used the 5.7 gpm on demand pump for 2+ years until I sold the coach. Had no problems with the pump. Better pressure than before. Some Microphor toilets aren't "happy" with the extra pressure, so you may need to install a pressure limiter on the water line serving the toilet. (Or open a cold water tap just before flushing to momentarily drop the pressure.)

George,



I bought one of their early pumps which failed shortly thereafter. They
made

some improvements and my second pump is well into it's second year.
They're

quite, they cycle only when you turn on a faucet, and the pressure and
flow rates

are smooth and consistent. If they fail in the field, limp over to
Camping World and

buy another, they're simple to install and replace. One caveat is that
you input and

outputs should be free of elbows for the first 18 inches. Shurflo
provides a good

set of fittings available for the pump.

I just replaced ours with a Shurflo 2.8 GPM because I was concerned about water pressure in the older coaches. Wouldn't a higher flow rate pump potentially develop a higher pressure than the ratings of our old pipes and tubes?

The 5.7 gpm variable speed pump produces about 65 psi. The pipes in most RVs should be able to handle this without serious problems. I experienced zero problems (other than a glitch with the Microphor flushing -- but that wasn't the pipes...)

If you are very concerned, Shurflo also makes a 4.0 gpm variable speed pump that produces about 50 psi.

Shore water is limited to 40 psi by the most common limiting devices -- and is a very conservative setting. Adjustable pressure limiters are available that allow higher pressures. (Many BBs have 'built in' pressure limiters located at the water input port.)

The fresh water system is tested at 120 psi minimum to pass the RVIA/RVDA specs to be certified. Blue Bird's will take the pressure. I have the5.7 65psi pump in my 84FC. The copper tubing is rated at 600psi burst as is the PEX type tubing.

More than twice that. I bought one in March of 2003, after they were reviewed in
MotorHome magazine, so I would guess they came out in late 2002.

That first one had problems with frequent cycling and "leak back" and was
replaced by Shurflo in June of 2003. It was working fine when the coach (SOB)
was sold in December of 2007.
