Cole Hersee Dial/Switch on firewall between engine and coach batteries
I used to know what this is but it's been 6 yrs since I last used it and there's
no mention of it in the LXI manual. I remember it has something to do with the batteries. It has 4 positions, 3 of which are marked. The 12 O Clock position says both; the 3 O Clock position says 2; the 6 O Clock position says off; and the 9 O Clock position says 1. It has been in the (#1)9 O Clock position for years and there have been no issues with it that I can recall. We're about to put in 6 new AGM coach batteries and I want to be ready for the installer. Can anyone explain what I need to do with the switch? Anyone? Thanks. 2000 LXI in San Antonio |

Does the switch look like the one in this link, the center one?
http://www.colehersee.com/catalog_top/index.htm My understanding...OFF is off...no battery power through the switch. ONE is one of two battery banks supplying battery power through the switch. TWO is the 2nd battery bank supplying power through the switch. BOTH is both banks supplying power through the switch. ONE is either the start batteries or the house batteries, TWO being the other. Curt, I'm looking at your link, at what they describe as a Battery Disconnect.
The one that I have is the first of the three that are shown. The numbers make sense, so what I should plan to do is turn it to the off (6 O Clock) position before changing out the batteries, and then back to the 1 (9 O clock) position after installation. Are we right on this? On our 1999 LXi, the batteries are connected as one bank and all work through
one position on the switch. Check the routing of the wires from the battery bank to the switch to determine the operation of that switch. Mike brings up a good point. If your coach batteries are wired the same as Mike's '99, that explains, too me anyway, why your switch has always been set to the #1 or 9 o'clock position, meaning the switch is used as an all-on or all-off, and not using the other two positions. Check the back of the switch.

Since I had to replace that switch (battery selector/disconnect) last year, I
learned an interesting lesson and might explain why BB used that switch as a simple disconnect. MONEY!!!! As strange as it may sound, it was cheaper, and higher rated, to use the 4 position switch than buy the same profile disconnect switch, Yes, my 97 is and was wired as on bank disconnect.
