New file uploaded to WanderlodgeForum
Thanks, now that I have reviewed the "device" I feel I might be missing
something. The accepted method of using a straight edge and a scale to measure
deflection appears to be equal to the accuracy the gage would provide. The
belts should be checked at oil change time, as should the fuel filters. I find
that the belts need to changed at 15/20k miles.
If one wants to observe a longer service life, it's OK with me.

Mike I inspect the belts and hoses and change the oil and filters after
every longer trip and several times during the summer. then its easy to
check the belt tension with the Kriket which I believe has an advantage
over the old ruler and scale. Its small and you can very quickly push at
the center of each belt and get a readout. Once you use a kriket you will
throw away the ruler and scale. By the way where can you buy a scale?

Just an observation. Why didnt you use the Red Dot 6260 at 38KBTU instead
of the smaller 6160 at 24KBTU? I believe the compressor will easily handle
it. If my condenser goes bad t hat is what I intend to use.

I was a close call...the Red Dot 6260 has same basic "roof
footprint", draws a little more power with the dual fans, and ran
about $350 more than the 6160 (which was in stock). Kysor AC had two
models that I looked at also, one similar to what I got, the next one
up was as I recall about 40" wide and too big for my mounting area.
Based solely on my W.A.G., I went with the smaller unit for $ and
also based on what tiny size of the OEM cond. element...even the 6160
adds roughly 25-30% to the heat exchange area, so I am hoping this is
sufficent for my needs. My opinion is that to realistically improve
performance of the dash air, the OEM condenser unit has to go, and I
think that going to either the 6160 or the 6260 unit is a good way to
go (but I am a novice, these are just my guesses). Another concern
is that the OEM electrical wiring is in my view another possible weak
link. I was trying to reduce amp load with the one fan.

I agree that the York/CCI type compressor will handle about anything,
this type unit fits the RPM range of our 3208's perfectly and we have
really no reason to worry about engine load with our engines.

Hopefully next weekend I can do final installs, evacuate and recharge
and see what I have accomplished. I'll take readings of pressures
and temps and update my posting...that will let us both know.

frank I already have converted my front A/C to R134A using the original
condenser. It works fine and blows cold but in my opinion is still
inadequate when the temp starts going up. Since the compressor is capable
of putting out somewhere in the range of 40,000 BTU it only makes sense to
me to make maximum use of it and go with the larger condenser.

But to make this work correctly (or even the stock one) you have to make
some basic changes in the electrical wiring.

There is to much current flowing thru the drivers side A/C switch in the
dash and the wiring going to the condenser fans is undersized also. Both of
those are easily taken care of by using Bosch relays to "trigger" new
wiring to both the fans in the evaporator and the condenser.

I am convinced that if you make this change and go with the larger
condenser you will get the cold air you need from the chassis A/C that you
need under the worse conditions. Seems like a very small cost to me for
such a large pay off.

We are lucky to have the forward control coaches in that the chassis air
can be truly made to work. The PT models on the other hand have such long
runs of A/C lines that even under the very best conditions they are
inadequate. For those I would defineatly change to the 6260 or even larger.
