Paint on Wanderlodges

Paint on Wanderlodges
Early Wanderlodges where painted with Dupont Imron which is a single stage
polyurethane product which is a long lasting product.I do not know what year
Bluebird went to base coat clear coat but most likely was in the 90s and that
was BASF. I know that some where in the late 90s 2000s they switched to PPG.
Most jobbers Dupont,BASF,PPG,SW,SIkkens can be crossed to the product that the
jobber sells but I have always had the best match by going to the OEM paint that
was applied.Dupont,BASF,PPG etc. All have Color Scaners (Color Camera) which do
a good job in matching colors.Base coats are hard to match with single stage
colors it just depends on the quality of match that you want.Hope this helps.

Paint on Wanderlodges
Hi Lee; I believe it was the change over of the 90 coach with the new caps, that
basf and clear coat went on the Coaches. Wasn't there a rub with EPA about paint
booths and Imron paint that made it more econ to change over?

Paint on Wanderlodges
Ralph,
In my Blue Box in my 91 I have detailed color drawings of the paint design on my Bird. It lists all Dupont Imron paint colors and there is some sort of paint warranty document from Dupont guaranteeing the finish for some number of years. I haven't looked at those documents in quite a while but they clearly indicate Dupont paints. Of course, it is possible mine was a skunks work coach, per some recent discussions, but it doesn't seem like there were any absolutes at Wanderlodge coachworks!

Paint on Wanderlodges
Thanks Lee for your descriptive explanation of the paint codes on 90's coaches. You are certainly an expert after 46 years in the automotive paint business.

The paint that I just bought from Eastx Paint co. here in Houston is a Dupont, two part paint consisting of the base color paint and a hardener which mixes with the base color.

Thanks again.
