Interior pics would help. Blue Bird used specific materials and components that would indicate factory or not. As to the engine working, My '72 prototype sat neglected for 6 years and started right up with only a new battery. Have put a couple hundred miles on it already.

When I bot my Bird a few yrs. back, I was told that it was a 1977 FC31. Looking up front sometime later, I saw that it was described as follows, Body No. F28328, Model Yr. 1976, Factory Service Number 125028. All of these numbers are lower than the numbers that you spoke of. With (3) A/C's you would be looking at something longer than a 31', as mine is that, and has (2) A/C's. Mine is powered by a 534 C.I. Ford gas engine, and also has a Onan 6.5 KW gas generator. I understand that 1977 was the last of the gas powered Birds. You may be looking at a late 1976 or actually a early 1977 bird. I know that a lot of the parts on my Bird can be traced to 1976, which makes sense, as they didn't sell immediately after they were completed. Would be best if you checked for any other paper work in the vehicle. Look for install/completion dates on any part that you may find. Good Luck, George Burke 1977 ? FC31 Charlotte

If I end up getting it, I'd most likely prefer to have a dinette and it's
curious to think that it might be possible to trade with someone who wants to go the other direction. It is a Cummins 555 turbo and don't know how it was stored, I just bought it, but I don't think they did anything special. Change the fuel filter, diesel grows algae. The genset is taking more work as it is a gas unit in mine. Carb was all gummed up and still surges. Might need the carb replaced, but it does run and make volts.

Mine had been taken out and replaced with cabinets as well. I just finished building a dinette and had cushions made. I built it as original, an owner kindly measured theirs and drew up plans for me! |

What does it take to fit a 555 into a Bird that was set up for V8 engines? Some

As I have one of the handful of prototypes built on a Jay Madsen pusher chassis, the engine compartment is cavernous and they had no trouble fitting a 555 in place of the Ford gas engine. They did have to cut a notch for the turbo, a small sheet metal box intrudes in the bedroom area for it.
