Drop down driving lights on 89 SP 36'
I have two problems with my drop down driving lights under the front bumper. The
left light wouldn't com on & I traced it to a bad bad switch that the back of the light presses against when down. It is a Cherry with no other numbers on it. Anyone know of a source of these. It has 3 wires on it one hot going to the switch one hot to light when the light is down & pressing the button on switch & one that is hot when light is retracted. But it is not used. The other problem is the driving light switch on the side panel under the shift buttons on the left. It seem to have lost its ground & will not unless drop the lights unless I run an other ground to it. Any guesses where that would be grounded? thank Don Don Spithaler 89 SP 36' Butler, PA |

It seems to me the ground should be to the relay.

Drop down driving lights on 89 SP 36'
The drop down lights on mine were one of the few things I ever gave up on - in
my case they would tend to "bounce" deployed/stowed on their own. Eventually I just removed the wire that activates the air solenoid. I did find, however, that the wiring was less than simple, and included at least one diode that appeared to have failed. I think that was on a ground wire, and essentially made it open. Drop down driving lights on 89 SP 36'
I checked a NAPA & Auto Zone today with no luck The guy at NAPA told me a place where I can look tomorrow. The wiring is hard to check without a complete set of drawings, I know I could do without the lights. I don't do much night driving anyways.

Ralph    Do you know where the ground would connected to a ground block? When I ground the switch for the drop down lights it seems to work. The green led light at the switch light when the lights come down & goes out when the lights close. Everything seem to work when it a ground wire attached. I'll look at Littlefield.   Thank Don

Don, two possibilities and one is a butt splice to a buss ground or
screwed to a chassis ground. If your lights are working when you add the ground, personally I would ground it to the chassis with a screw, do a check out and go to the next project. One obvious thing that wasn't mentioned: I don't think the lights are supposed
to go down unless they would also be on, so the ground probably completes only when all other condtions are met. Those conditions are lights on, high-beams on, driving light switch on. Is that how you are testing? Don, does this mean that when I meet an oncoming vehicle and dim my lights,
that my driving light switch off and retract? I've never used them, but it would be interesting to know these things.
