Bird of the Week

Don't miss this week's Bird of the Week picture, especially if you are in a land of 100+ temps, which we had so many days of this year.


Rose Mary Smith has sent in some great shots in the past and this week's picture is another one of them. She has had limited internet connectivity out in the woods, but she took the time to send in that picture. Every now and then, when Bird of the Week pictures have more of a story behind them than we can fit in on the front page, we try to share a little of the added information here for those that have an interest in learning more about the location, the subject matter or the circumstances behind the picture.

As Rose Mary put it:

"She has been living in the bus up on Burnt Mtn in the Oregon coast range since January last
...while most sensible bluebirds were in Arizona in the sun and desert... Ahh to have been anywhere warm last winter and spring....
.

She is on equipment watch for a logging/thinning contractor, which includes some fire watch duties now that we are in fire season. She has been in 7 different sites so far as the job sites move regularly.

The beauty of it... miles of BLM forest in varying stages from wild, thinned, old growth- new growth. The wildflowers were incredible this spring and early summer. Wildlife abounds...lots of elk, there are bear, cougar, deer and lots of birds. Incredible rock formations and waterfalls and native plants.

Priceless... oh yea I am paid to be up here...haha!"

Thanks Rose Mary. I think it's always nice to have more context behind a picture, especially when it may peak someone else's interest to try a similar location, or a similar job in this case.

There's something to be said for the lure of full-timing, as this week's Bird of
the Week once again proves. As seen in the current front page picture, Bob and
Arlene have literally been from sea to shining sea in their full-timing
adventure over the past few years.

If you would like to have your Bird as Bird of the Week, why not send in a
picture and details right now while you are thinking about it.

Last week's Bird of the Week featured Dave & Sam Swan's "Cygnus". The Swans
traveled the country full time for several years in the Bird. I had not visited
their web travel blog (http://www.swansonthego.com) for a while, but did so last week,
only to find out that the Bird of the Week was headed to a new owner in Florida
at the end of the week. Ironic timing for the picture re-run!

If you would like your Bird (or a picture of several Birds) to be featured as

Thanks for the note. Yes, Cygnus has gone to Matt Hunt and his family in
Florida. We sure enjoyed our almost decade of traveling the country in Cygnus,
but we felt it was time to change our life course once more. We are happy that
the coach will also enjoy more life, on the road and camping with a nice family.
It was getting depressed sitting in our driveway in North Carolina and not out
being used. We remember the time the photo was taken in Utah. It took me two
days to dig out around the bus enough to get back on the road. We immediately
headed south and warmer climes to dry out!

Which Algodones, Mexico is Navarro's paint shop located, there are three
Algodones listed in Mexico in different mexican states? Were there any problems
traveling in Mexico with the Bus???

If you go to the Files section of the Forum, there is an entry for Navarro's shop with a map and contact information for them. According to another member they also have repair support for Air Conditioning and other systems. Having seen their paint work first hand, I would say it is very good and really reasonable in price.
