Time to replace defective and potentially dangerous absorption fridge

Happy to take detailed measurements, but if yours is like mine (on passenger side just beyond dinet with drawer under and small space above) the drawer and current reefer space equal 73.5 "X 32" X 28.25". What I didn't measure was the small cabinet and the depth of the A/C relief.

Here is a better view of the top cabinet removed. I
am assuming your AC/roof drop panel is similar. My bottom drawer measures 10" high X 32.5" wide (this is staying for my application). The entire box above the drawer (so add the drawer height back if you want) is 68" to the A/C panel or 70" to the roof. These measurements are with the top little cabinet removed. As you will see by these photos, the bracketry for my non-slide equipped (limited edition) coach is pretty straight forward and adds no further stand-off from the wall. I may elect to ties those wire bundles up higher. Does this look like yours?

The quarter round extruded aluminum roof beam on mine looks like the one used in the M380 and M450. Here it is: . You can see how something like this might become necessary as holes for slides are cut into the side of the bus!

Thanks for the refrigerator compartment height measurements. I'll be at my bus in a couple of days so I'll be able to take a first hand look, but from your measurements I should have approximately 78" from floor to AC drop ceiling. I checked into the Sub-Zero 700 Series refrigerator specs; you know, the one used in Prevost conversions and Newells??? They make a 700 series that will fit width wise but they all top out at 80 inches, so I guess I'll have to rule out keeping up with the Jones's!

I'm thinking, pending any definitive word on the Amish Cooling Unit build and materials quality, and considering that I have a growing family of five, that I may need to trade off energy efficiency for size! I need to feed five! LOL

It's interesting all the different requirements we have. Some owners never step foot in a campground and when away from home are always on genny or batteries or gas; some owners require that their residential fridge consume miniscule amounts of electrical power so that they can survive on their aging, sprinkler fed, singular flooded lead acid battery; some owners need to feed a family of five and interior fridge space trumps all! Customization is the bane and bread and butter of the motor coach industry.

I'm convinced even the better built Amish units are still going to fail prematurely due to corrosion or inadvertent overheating. And the cost of the replacement unit is close to equal the cost of the new Samsung with dual cooling on modern Platinum skin.

You also realize that the Samsung will increase your refrigeration capacity by 70% in the same space!!!!!!!! 19.7 versus 11.6.........

Ah, how easily we're swayed to the dark side of the force!!! A simple thing of size easily converts the weak!! How many places will you not be able to go, because of the need for more power!!?? The kids will be SO brokenhearted!!


I'm staying with my unreliable, "burn the coach down" multifuel reefer!! I always pack hotdogs and marshmellows, so at least I can have food when she burns!

After looking at a typical residential refrigerator motor coach installation I'm waffling back to my beloved Dometic. No one, and I mean no one has a door latch mechanism like my Dometic NDR1292. It's a thing of beauty as is it's built-in and cabinet grade door panels. There will be no residential upgrade for me unless I can duplicate this look (I wonder if it looks as good in charcoal black)! :

Considering that no one has really stated what the Samsung efficiency is......or the run time......especially considering we have 6 Lifeline 4D batteries.....and a 15kW genny......and could always add solar to the mix.......and the awesome fact that I'll probably never need a propane refill for my two burner stove and gas grill.....what's the fuss about? Door latches? Really? Have we oscillated that far? The man who engineered the Brady seal? Oh my!!! Must I invent the door latch, and send you a vinyl wrap of wood grain to make you see the light?

Remember, the Edsel middle light did add extra candlepower, but it was butt ugly just the same. Platinum is sexy David!!!!!!!
