94pt Tag axle bearing
900 miles into a 1100 mile trip up and down California. I am headed to the sea side dry camp spot called Rincon. I noticed some oil on the rear jack and checked the source to be the Tag inner wheel seal. I pulled the 1/2 moon off the hub and the cap and noticed the oil to be low and hotter than the passenger tag. I am spending the night in Goleta near Santa Barbara waiting for a mobile tech to pull the wheel and check the bearing and brakes in the morning. my concern is "What caused the seal to fail and why is there more heat than the other side" the rim is 20 degree hotter and I wonder if the oil in the brake lining can account for this? I dont have any information on the tag. I will update after the Tech has a look. Greg 951-830-5997

RE: 94pt Tag axle bearing
Hi Greg and Tim,
Seals sometimes fail. Low oil can create heat as well as oil on the brake drums. I don't think I contributed much to this thread but I did want you to know that we are just down the 101 from you in Ventura Harbor. If you need any help, give me a call. 661-747-4690 Mike, Tami and Ajax |

RE: 94pt Tag axle bearing
it looked like all is well with the axle and bearings but two of the inner bearing rollers were cracked but still in the set retainer. I decided to replace all bearings, shoes ,seals and hardware.
Parts source Coast Truck Parts Ventura, CA 805-656-8709 Bearing Timkin TI set 403 Mile-Mate 594A/592A Bearing Timkin TI set 401 Mile-Mate 580/572 Inner seal FE 370003A Brake shoes classix6-C1 EX Q Brake Kit EB E2769HD Parts were less than 300. drum clean up was 45.00 labor 600. while we ran for parts the tech removed oil from the other three baths and replaced with new and a stabilizer. He also dropped the drive axle fluid and replaced and lubed some of the chassis in the rear. The Tech is Juan O's Mobile Repair of Ventura. cell 1-805-570-3071 office 805-689-3122 another tech that I found in the area was Tim Parks cell is 805-331-2815 . When they quoted rates for an rv I told them to pretend it is a dump-truck with awnings. rate for dumptrucks is 100. hr no setup rounded up to the hour Gregory O'Connor 2001 LXi43ss Romoland California 92585 951-830-5997 Rainbowrv.com |

RE: 94pt Tag axle bearing
some images of the repair
image of bearing and seal box show's number that are listed in prior post Image of axle, please note the shoulder that the seal race rides on has a cavity under it that needs to be cleaned out with solvent and air pressure to remove metal and grit that otherwise will screw the new bearing sets. I ended up with three mobile techs onsite by the time the job was complete. They sent over an opacity computer for me to do some PSI tests when they learned I was certified. Seems no one in the county has the cert. some images of the repair image of bearing and seal box show's number that are listed in prior post Image of axle, please note the shoulder that the seal race rides on has a cavity under it that needs to be cleaned out with solvent and air pressure to remove metal and grit that otherwise will screw the new bearing sets.
