Entrance step
Hey folks..The entrance step on "RUBY" (86FC35) is not working..the
step is out. I have been trying to track down the reason for most of the day. It worked fine the last time we used the coach and now..nadda..It looks like there is a pin (air operated) that is in the frame of the step and will not move. When I push the jam (door) contacts in I hear a click in the transfer compartment (that is what that relay is all about..and the plastic cover is cloudy) I got the downloads from the forum about trouble shooting it..to no avail ..the info (on the forum)is for a SP and not for a FC so the location of the relays, power etc is different. HELP..can anyone give some advise on this situation?? Any/All help would be appreciated Scott B 86FC35 "RUBY" Murrells Inlet SC (Right next to heaven..with no step) |

That pin is the rod end of a piston in a air cylinder...It is air only one way...the return is spring return....sometimes the weight of the step pushing on the rod is to much for the spring to overcome. In fact, you can tweek it enough by stepping on the stairs to bend it thus preventing it from retracting. tap it with a hammer on the end of the rod... I am having the same problem now and posted last week on it. Response was to snip the two wires that would render the safety switch that keeps the step from closing on your foot, in op. Mine were already snipped. BTW try starting the cat and putting it in drive, roll about a foot and see if the step goes in. Mine does when I do this. dandarst86fc35rbhuntleyil. >From: "Scott" >Reply-To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com >To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com >Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Entrance step >Date: Thu, 01 Sep 2005 02:29:51 -0000 > >Hey folks..The entrance step on "RUBY" (86FC35) is not working..the >step is out. Hey Scott,
Our step is similar to the troubling shooting guide in the files. Some earlier air step circuits are different. Try checking the two ground wires under the air solenoid valve and the two plug on soleniod electrical connectors on each side of the same switch. These connections have a tendency to corrode. This helped our intermittent step. Bill 88 FC Michigan --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Scott" wrote: > Hey folks..The entrance step on "RUBY" (86FC35) is not working..the > step is out. Entrance step
Just got done working on mine.
I had two issues. 1. There are two ground wires that come off the air solenoids. Each wire grounds each of the solenoids. They are grounded at a common connector. Check this ground. 2. There are two power leads that go to the air switch solenoids. One powers the solenoid in one direction and the other powers it in the opposite direction. I would have a helper push the Door Jam Switch and see it you get power on one or the other wire. One has power when the door is closed and the other has power when the door is open. Be careful. The step can cycle and take a finger. Also you will notice two buttons on the end of each air solenoid switch. If you have air pressure you can manually push the buttons to cycle the step up and down even without power. 3. The strip switch is the wire that runs along the edge above the step. If you were to get a foot stuck between the step and the chassis the step is stopped. 4. You can also adjust the speed of the steps in and out on the air switch. --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Scott" wrote: > Hey folks..The entrance step on "RUBY" (86FC35) is not working..the > step is out.
