Priming the Fresh Water Pump

Priming the Fresh Water Pump
I drained my fresh water lines on my 35FC80 side bath using the knobs
at the rear bed compartment. I filled the tank halfway and tried the
sinks. I hear the pump running but no water is coming out. The
commercial hookup works fine. No water is leaking out anywhere. Does
the pump need to be primed? If so, how?

Thanks,
SDF

Shawn, I had the same prob but it was the valve that changes the input
water from 'hookup pressure' to 'tank fill'. I dont know if you have
the same set up but the electric valve on my camper was holding open.
Does the pump keep running?

If it is the sporlan valve for the tank fill, try cycling it a couple
times with the hose attached and on. This will sometimes clean the
sediment out of the assembly and allow the valve to close. If not,
you may have to take the valve apart and get the sediment out, or it
could be time for a rebuild. BB sells the sporlan rebuild kit.

It could also be that your pump won't self prime anymore. BB sells a
new pump base for about 20 dollars. This is less likely than the
sporlan problem. To help the pump prime, loosen the outflow water
hose, have someone turn it on while holding the hose, remove the hose
just slightly and when you get a shower put it back on and scream to
have the pump shut off. Don't forget to tighten it down again.
It'll be fine until you run out of water.

Lastly, the set screw can come off the pump pulley, or the belt can
come off of at the pump. Turn on the pump and make sure it's
spinning the belt.

The pump does just keep running. I am not familiar at all with how things
work. This is my first rv. Thanks for you patience. I have separate inputs
for the fill versus commercial water, so I assume no valve for switching.

Thanks for the detailed response and your patience. I am new to rvs, this is
my first one. And I am learning to be more mechanical, but I am not there
yet. I do not know what the sporlan valve is or how to cycle it. I will
check to make sure the tank is filling and look for a valve btw the fill
point and the tank. I will also try to loosen the outflow and then check the
belt. Thanks for the input.

Priming the Fresh Water Pump
Shawn, The pump should have an arrow showing the direction of water
in and out. If you can,
1- remove the output hose.
2- losen the input side until it leaks.
3- retighten the input hose. and run the pump.
result should be a burst of water. if not pump may be bad. if yes then
4. shut pump off and reattach output hose.
5.turn pump on and see if you have pressure at any valve. if yes than
check if pump cycles off when you close all house valves. Remember to
give the hotwater heater time to fill up.
It took a long time to fill my hot water heater up so I shut the
input to the heater off while I traced the problem with my pump
system.
If that doesnot work, the water must be cycling in a circular motion
maybe back to the tank? Dont know

Shawn check out the "what is this" thread, Tom Warner has good advice
and is knowledgable on your type of house water system
