Genny Replacement aka parts available
Hey folks, we have just decided on replacing the Perkins/Kohler genny
in our 86FC. We are going to install a new Power Tech 12.5 and wanted
to know if any FC owners have had any experience with PowerTech. I am
currently scheduling this for about three weeks and would like to know
of any pitfalls, input, opinions about this work. Any/all input would
be appreciated. My email is cme4boatsataoldotcom..
Thanks in advance

We had a 8kw PowerTech on our '03 Dutch Star. never had a problem with it.
Depending on your design, there may be a spark arrestor on the exhaust tip that
needs to be unscrewed and cleaned out every 50 hours or so. I just used hot
water. It would get plugged with exhaust soot. The first oil change is also at
50 hours.

Scott I was just in your town a few weeks ago. We stopped in on the way
back from Florida to see my wife's Grandparents. You live in a very
nice area. How many hours on your perkins and what do you plan on doing
with it after it is removed? Thanks Gene

Gene thanks for the kudos on the Grand Strand..."right next" well you
know ..The genny has about 1900 hrs on it.. I have recently done some
work ..new regulators (three) new stator, new endbell bearings
etc..less than 50 hrs on that. When we pull it out it will be for
sale or is for sale now..duh..motor does not leak a drop...runs like
a top..but I have been chasing "gremlins" for 9 mos in the genny side
of it.Kind of like nickle and dimeing. Prolly just a fuse..but when
it is out and on the bench we will see.If you have any interest email
me and I will give you the full story cme4boatsataoldotcom...What do
you do..your S/N is interesting ..we are lookin at log homes...

Scott:

Is the power tec gen set your putting in have the insulated cover housing
around it? Or are you putting in an open model?

Hey Ralph, I am putting in the open model. Then enclosed dimensions
are kind of prohibitive. I should have pleny of room with the open
though. I am going to have them modify the radiator and fan. My plan
is to lay the radiator flat and use a squirrel cage fan. I think this
coupled with the soundproofing I have already done. Should make a
noticable difference in noise. We will see. Tell Charlette hey for us.
