refrigerator problems

IMO with todays cheap prices on inverters
why not use a regular apt fridge as i have in my old FC......350-1200 is a lot
of space in my hip pocket and we all know how long a reg fridge lasts..........

Just another way to get food cold without the wife mad = more fun for me!

no worryies about propane for me at fuel stations either.

If you buy a single door conventional refrigerator and fill the freezer
section with "ice packs" or water frozen in containers you will
be able to keep the lower section cool for several days. We had this setup
in an old Champion MH and it was only necessary to
run the generator for about an hour a day. Compressor refrigerators cool
much faster than RV models.

This works well during extended dry camping trips.

The downside is, of course, no frozen food.

apartment sized ones. A white one goes for $300, stainless for $400.

Bill,
In my coach there is a small chest freezer/refrigerator located in the front
thru way bay mounted on a slide out. I don't know if it is original equiptment
but it works fine either as refrig or freezer. Just a thought, to solve the
problem of freezer space.

Rob, its 120 volt- no problem with the batteries. we don't dry camp, so no
problem for us. If its hot out, we run the genny for the a/c's anyway. Ernie-

Doesnt sound good to me unless you are going to park in a RV park
every night and when you are on the road have a large battery bank
and large alternator. The small 9 cu ft Ge refrigerator with a manual
defrost pulls 15A at 120VAC when running or 1800Watts. Thats 150A
from your batteries.

The 9.6 cu ft GE refrigerators annual electric usage is 338 kWh/year
or less than 1kWh/day (925 watts); it doesn't pull a constant 15-
amps. Shouldn't be much of a load for a good inverter and battery
bank.
