air horns and NAPA belt tension gauge

Hi all,

Well we are finally getting down to the wire and will be leaving our
permanent parking space here in Cincinnati. I have a laundry list of little
things
that need attention, things to be cleaned and run and repaired.

I tried out my air horns and could only hear a 'squeak' out of the left
horn, nothing out of the right one. Climbed the ladder, and looked in side the
left horn and it had a mud dobber nest in there. So I took a coat hanger,
straightened it out, and disintegrated it, then blew it out with air, and it
now
works. Nothing still out of the right horn still and is clear of any nests.
Any ideas?

I bought a NAPA Krikit II V, belt tension gauge and the scale on it goes
from 100 to 320 pounds of pressure in 20 pound increments. How do I know what
is the right tension of my alternator/compressor double belts? When I put
the gauge on there, it "pops" at 160 of pressure, but then this is where the
yellow 'gauge indicator' starts at. Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

tom, don't know about your belts but soooooooooo glad that you are finally

Tom,

If your horn is like mine, it's a Grover horn (_www.groverproducts.com_
(http://www.groverproducts.com) ). Check the archives for instructions on how
to
tune the horns. My horns began to sound sick, and with a little help from a
honker (my daughter) and me on the roof, I got them tuned and sounding like
they are supposed to. If you can't find the instructions, I can dig through
my BB box and dig them out for you...let me know.

Tom you have the wrong Kriket. I believe the one you have is for
checking the tension on the support lines for the Bay Bridge.
Take it back and get part number 20066389 which measures belts up to
7/8" wide. You want a Kriket l which goes from
30-150# http://tinyurl.com/e3nz4 . I have one and its the best
$9 I ever spent. I posted the Bluebird recommended tensions for your
belts on the forum site under 3208 Belts.

You have the Krikit II, no idea what the high range is for?
You need the Krikit I, range 40-160#, 15-70Kg
Part No's 91107 7401-0071

Included in the instructions are some pulley configurations
with associated belt tensions. I would suggest as a start to
check your existing belt tensions not only for a base line
but also get a feel for how to take meaurements.

Blue_Bird_Engine_Belt_tensions.jpg

This is a photo of a Blue Bird letter showing the recommended
belt tensions using a Burroughs 01-33-95, or, 01-33-73G belt
tension guage.

There is some difference in the readings between the two
measuring guages, mention is made of this on the internet
but Burroughs reads higher than the Kriket for the same belt
tension.

As step in the right direstion for consistent belt tensioning.
Sure beats the "Thumb" or "Twist" test.
