I Bought a Bird' From Firefighter Dave Hollis...
About 6 weeks ago I purchased a 1978 FC33 from Dave Hollis of
Springfield Illinois. I would like to send him an e-mail, but I can't put my hands on his address right now, hopefully Dave will read this and reply. What a great Bus! I drove it about 1800 miles since I got it and this bus has been a real pleasure. The bus has received very good care and excellent ownership before me. This old Bird' looks good, runs good, and lives very well. This is a very simple bus that is capable of delivering excellent dependability, with absolute minimum cost of ownership. Anyway, I'm just thrilled with this Blue Bird Bus. It's amazing to me how much attention it draws and the non-stop compliments from those who see it. Just thought I'd update the group on my 'new Bird.' James 1978 FC33 |

Dave,
We had a '78 for about 13 years and loved it. We just about raised our kids in it - with no TV! There is a lot about that FC that I miss in the 1991 WLWB. Enjoy it !! James,
Glad you like the FC, I sure did...want to sell it back to me??? I'm guessing by your glowing review that when the bus failed to proceed 60 miles away from your home that the problem was minor. I Bought a Bird' From Firefighter Dave Hollis...
Hello, Dave...
Now I have your e-mail, but here you are, so I'll talk to you here as others might want to read and contribute. To start with, yes! the bus was in Drive and not in Neutural. I felt like an idiot when my eyes focused on the teeth inside the shifter and realized my mistake. Once I put the shifter in neutural it started right up. Since I've had the bus here in Vegas I have taken it for four short trips, twice to both lake Havasu and lake Mead. After the big trip back I took it to Vegas Catapillar and got a full lube, filters and oil change service. Are there only two fuel filters? The one on top of the motor and the element in the water seperator? The bus has performed without a hitch. I found a small leak that hit the ground just inboard of the RF jack. It was antifreeze, and it was leaking, very slowly, from a hose that was clamped to a flange of an alloy cylender. I'm not sure where it was routing from or to, but I double clamped it and the leak went away. I suspect that this hose has to do with the chassie heating plumbing. The only thing else I can think to ask you about, at the moment, is a noise that I hear, infrequently, from the LF jack when it is deployed. the Jack does not seem to move, yet infrequently, you will hear a sort of bonging sound. The jacks work fine, have you ever heard it do this? Thanks for selling me a good solid bus, Dave, and NO, you can not have it back! --James 1978 FC33 Las Vegas NV |

Hi James, and welcome. If you live in Vegas, You are my nearest "neighboring
bird." We picked up a PT a few months ago. Email me off list and we can exchange contact info. We go to Vegas periodically, and I'm sure you will be heading to Zion, Bryce, etc. BTW, Curt is in the planning stage for a west coast rally in Feb/March if you are interested.
