My 68 has a battery for the gen, another for the engine and there is a
compartment behind the entrance door with a slide out try for the house
batteries.
It looks originial, I did not know that they changed it.

Scott; I have dry camped for as much as a week with no problems with batts. I
run the generato every AM for two to threeh hours to fix coffee and get hot
water for shower. On all BB the generator batts are isolated from the coach
batts so even if the coach batts are down the generator should always start to
recharge coach batts to start drive engine.

Scott, it would be hard to pin down a number...depending on use
factors and even temp. would have an effect. For my unit, having 6
paired "sams club" golf cart types, I could go 2 days with confidence.

The real problem for my FC was not so much the current I used on
demand, it was the small amp load the FC demanded all the time...for
various systems (clocks, monitor panel, alarms) and such. To fix
this "works as designed" limitation, I installed a solar panel to
recoop this constant low amp drain. I posted the project in FILES. I
am very happy with this "fix". Unless generators are prohibited, to
power the microwave or toaster for breakfast/dinner, we usually run
the generator for 15-20 min. twice a day also.

If you going to live off the batterys, just make sure your generator
battery is reliable...then you can always get her started if you have
let the main batteries down...nothing ruins a morning than that sound
of "no start - clicks only" from your engine and then also the
generator!

Dry Camping...How Long?
Not True! The one thing I have learned about BB's is that nothing is
standard. Some have a single battery system. Some have a two battery
system - House and chassis. On some, the generator starts from the
house batteries and on some, the generator starts from the chassis
batteries. Some have a three battery system - House, Chassis, &
Generator. And some have a two battery system with the house and
chassis combined and a separate battery for the generator. Some have
been modified by owners to some other configuration than factory. About
the only absolute statement you can make is that it varies. Our coach
is/was an all electric coach - the generator started off the house
batteries. IMHO, the three battery system is the best with the ability
to cross connect and cross charge as necessary.

Dry Camping...How Long?
Having watched "Jeramiah Johnson" again last evening I'm thinking this is
the closest any of us will come to being "Mountain Men" and it's close
enough for me. Being alone and self sufficient is an illusion but a fun
one. I enjoy the forum and learn from it but with the price of diesel being
what it is will probably stick with the light weight trailer. I dry camp
off road and a Bird would sink to the frame. Really like you folks and
agree that Birds are the best if you can afford them. I do keep the dream
alive anyway.
