SS Roof Screws
Hello everyone-

First off, I would like to thank everyone who helps me out with
their suggestions. I appreciate it! (I'm waiting for my 'free
subscription' to be up for asking too many questions! hehe)—By the
way, took out Batt's today, and cleaned out the tray, and letting it
dry to spray some black rust-olium on it. Should look great for
years to come Charger is working fine now, with the 30A plugged
into the other plug in the power input of the coach. (Think Ice
maker is gone, no compressor run—nothing)

I have (and believe most do) a top observation area with large
pieces of aluminum diamond plate screwed down into the roof of the
bus. Quite a few of the SS screws have backed out, and I'm sure they
will again- if I tighten them all. Has anyone ever heard of
replacing those screws with large SS pop Rivets? (Or aluminum) That
would be a Permanent fix, with nothing to back out ever again.

If this is a bad idea, I would like to know. Has this been done?

You're right, every few years it is good to walk the roof with a
screwdriver and check all of the screws.

I wouldn't use aluminum rivets, they will likely corrode in the
steel. The screws will be fine, if you want them to stay better there
are several products that will seal and lock the screws in, many of
us use products like silicone sealer, I like urethene window
adheasive.

On the icemaker, don't call it dead yet. If you have the Redi-Line
(motor-generator) then there is a 4x4 metal box behind the icemaker
with a relay in it, could be bad. Try plugging the icemaker into a
different outlet, like the one labeled Insta-Hot, and see if it works.

Correct me if I am wrong Stephen but I believe you have Phillips head SS
screws right? I did have an occasion to work on one rig like yours and found
that about a dozen or so screws were loose mostly towards the rear of the
coach. This seems to be the area where they become loose soonest no matter
what fastener is used (screw, tech screw etc). In several later model coaches
I have replaced the self-taping tech screws with SS Hex head Lag screws. The
tech screws were 1/4 inch by 1 inch. I would normally use 5/16 inch by 1 inch
to replace them but every once in a while I would have to use a 3/8 by 1 inch
if I stripped out a hole or it had rusted a little. I like to wrap a little
windshield buytal on the threads of each replacement screw. A little time
consuming but what the heck we're all retired aren't we VBG.

Hahahah. Woody we would have eventually gotten around to it right after we
finished reassembling the Parkay flooring, removing the squirrel nests and
Gecko skeletons, rebuilding drawers, removing and reinstalling fridge. Oh
ya and that little job of installing a swing radiator. It was fun learning
experience though right Randy.

I haven't found this elusive retirement beast and I am still "Dreamin and
Scheming" for my wanderlodge. My wife is ready but the finances aren't quite
there. close tho!
