If you can't get to the breaks (and the experts here will clarify that) then I
would look at snaking in new lines to bypass those unreachable buggers. Rob, Sue & Merlin 94 WLWB Quoting Stephen <share@...>: > > > > > Anyone else out there had to deal with what Im going through? Water Leaks!
Stephen, that is exactly what I am doing with my Bird now. It looks like I am
going to have to remove most of the pipes and replace them. The ones that had not burst were expanded so that none of the standard fittings will work. So, to do it right I have decided to replace the copper with PEX which is supposed to be resistant to bursting if frozen and it supposed to be much easier to work with in tight areas. I have some pictures on the WOO site where I have taken mine apart, but I still have to put the new in yet. I will be doing it in the next few days . . . one way or the other. The fact that you both have frozen pipes begs the question of whether
either of you properly followed the procedures for winterizing your fresh, grey and black water systems that is outlined in your owners manuals? tom warner 1982 FC35 Vernon center,NY At 09:52 PM 3/4/2006, you wrote: >Stephen, that is exactly what I am doing with my Bird now. Water Leaks!
Bruce-
I know what your going through! I removed the water tank, and replaced all of them going forward (hot and cold) now, having to go forward still from the kitchen sink forward to bath. running into problems removing old pipes, they are wrapped in that blue heat strip wire, and zip tied to each other (and the propane lines). If I can get them untied, and slip them out one, by one, I think I will be ok. It's difficult behind the stove and shower. I need to find out how to get behind there... maybe take out the drawers under the stove top? Or the furnace below the drawers? Not sure.. If you have any suggestions..??? Water Leaks!
Stephen, at this point I have removed all of the drawers, backing that comes
out, and anything else I can find that is in front of my pipes. The zip ties you can cut with a diagonal cutter. The Blue heat tape in my Bird has already been cut (at least some of it) and the rest is unplugged for some reason. I haven't decided what if anything I am going to do about the heat tape. I keep heat in my Bird when it is cold, but of course that doesn't mean it is going to keep the areas that the pipes run in warm enough. I'll have to do some research and find out how the blue stuff works. I'm not familiar with it and from what I understand it is supposed to be thermostatically controlled by the dielectric in the tape itself which is somehow temperature sensitive. I guess if it is still available it might be a good idea to run it with the pipes. One of the tools I bought to hopefully help remove copper pipes is a ratcheting pipe cutter. It goes up to 1/2 inch, but they make a larger one for over 1/2 inch if I need it. With that I can slip it onto the pipe and then ratchet it with whatever room I have. It is self tightening and in time will cut through the pipe as well as a regular pipe cutter. I'm crossing my fingers that it will work like I think it will. We live and learn. Just have to keep remembering that we are having a good time and working on our Birds is fun and rewarding. Water Leaks!
Well Tom, as I said earlier I don't winterize my Bird but I do keep it connected
to electricity and keep heat in it when it gets too cold. Maybe it's just a "Bruce" thing. I know that my Bird came from New Hampshire where it probably got cold enough to be a problem. All of the problems I have encountered did not occur on my watch, but I have to deal with them. I suspect the same thing is true of Bruce in Florida too since I believe he just bought the coach from someplace up north. So I guess you are right neither one of us followed the procedures as outlined in the Blue Box. Water Leaks!
Bruce-
I am getting rid of my blue wire, as I wont need it anymore here in Florida, and don't plan on going any ware that cold! Plus, I drain my pipes properly if I don't use my coach for awhile anyway. I will get into removing drawers, ECT this week. I had to take a break this weekend, as I spent Friday night, and all day Saturday removing the water tank and the old pipes behind there-and only to find out more broken pipes- somewhere- I will keep you updated. Just hope nothing behind the shower is busted! Stephen, at this point I have removed all of the drawers, backing that comes out, and anything else I can find that is in front of my pipes. Bruce- I know what your going through! Stephen, that is exactly what I am doing with my Bird now. It looks like I am going to have to remove most of the pipes and replace them.
