Steve,
If you are looking don't forget to look at the Bluebird BMC
line starting a in '94 - '97. In my mind, its really a best kept
secret. It sports a Cummins 400 hp Engine and Allison 3060 World
Transmission getting an average of 8 mpg at 65 mph. You can get
into a BMC 5 - 6 years newer with newer technology for same money as
5 - 6 year older wanderlodge. You need to do some research, the
Wanderlodge series does have some options that the BMC does not
have. I think the trade off for newer Bird is well worth the
options not in place.

Our BMC has the wanderlodge dash, white wash interior, roof
rails and latter and storage galore. If you like to see some pics
let me know and I can send to you. We started looking at the '90
Wanderlodge 40' and felt they were very dated and too long for us.
Then look at the SP and like them and stumbled across the BMC line.
Seems like the BMC is rarely brought up so just want you to know it
does exist and has same quality contruction as the FC, PT and SP
models. We still like to camp in State & National Parks and getting
a 40' in some of them would be tough. Plus the BMC is 102" wide
compared to the 96" on the '86. Its amazing what 6" x 37' gives
you. Of course you have 6" less error range going down the road.
LOL They also made BMC 40' if you are looking for a 40'

Steve I would consider Mead Diesel in Bonners Ferry Idaho. It may be a bit far
but I would go there because I know the kind of work they do and their honesty
in dealing with customers. People come down from Calgary and Edmonton Alberta
areas to have work done. Their shop number is (208)267-8027

Steve,
The 8v92 is a very common engine. You won't have any trouble finding
qualified shops. There is a very good shop in Nephi, UT. "Doyles".
It's just across I-15,(north side) from the Flying J. You mentioned
Freightliner.....You might have to wait a while to get into one of
their shops. Vegas will be more expensive than going towards Salt lake
for repairs.
You also ask about power range,etc. 8v92's run about the same power
range as your cat. All in all their isn't any problem operating a
detroit. They were used as fleet engines for years untill being
replaced by the detroit 60 series engines.
