Fall and Winter Plans
Age is not relevant; it having used the term frequently and forgetting that
others don't do likewise--Its South Padre Island (SPI) which as you probably
know is 18 miles from Brownsville. Great park there, Destinations RV park,,
which is right on the bay. Also a very large county run park, not as fancy but
cheaper. If you are day camping for that long, do you have solar? Wallace &
Faye at Azle, Tx

I guess I'm getting old Wallace. What is SPI? By the way, it is
all dry camping at Quartzsite, but loads of fun. If you camp where
we do in the Bureau of Land Management land south of time at Tyson's
Wash, then you have access to a dump station accross the highway and
water to boot, so no real need to sweat it if you can't operate in
an economy mode. I make it all the way for at least 10 days self
contained. Have done 14. You just have to learn to take Navy
Showers and don't waste any water. Typically the holding tanks due
just fine.

We will miss you also, but I had determined a long time ago not to
attend this years RIV. From what I have been reading, BB got the
message. I wonder if the count on attendees has grown any?

Anyway, you guys have fun.

The only solar that I have is to keep the chassis batteries up on
charge.

When we are at Quartzsite, we run the generator for an hour in the
morning and again for a few hours in the evening. Since we have an
inverter, we use that during the day for 120v needs unless the
batteries are low. Occassionally I will keep the generator running
when I'm using the DataStorm. Afterall, these rigs were designed to
function self-contained for long periods of time. The gen sets last
longer when you use them.

Liz:

I have a single solar panel on the roof to trickle charge the
chassis batteries. The controller is mounted in the rear of the
refrigerator and is accessed from the outside of the coach. It is
not standard equipment, but was added by the original owner of the
coach. You could do the same if you wanted to.

If you are interested, Wally could do you an installation at
Quartzsite. That's what he does most of the time for an outfit in
Phoenix.

how big a panel are you looking for?? That and a small charge
controller will be relatively inexpensive
you can buy small kits for 35.00 and up
