Hello everyone it's been a while since I posted, but I have been
lurking. We think we have sold our home, and plan to full time for
about a year in Pepto. I can retire anytime with a three month notice,
most likely in the spring. Who can tell me about fulltimer insurance?

Dear Bill and Carol,
We have been Full Timing going on 4 years now. The best insurance
we have found (so far) is Thum Insurance Agency 800-866-0777. They have
handled a couple of claims very well and the price is very competive.
They also handle our Mexican insurance so all is in one.

Howdy, Bill and Carol.
I received insurance quotes from the "Big Guys" in the business. Way
too high so I contacted Explorer RV Insurance Agency at 888-774-6778
and talked to Bob Isbell. Quote for good coverage was very reasonable,
in my opinion.

We have been fulltiming for 11 years now and have been paying way too
much to our present insurance company.

Liz Pearce

This issue has come up before over insurance and maybe its time to
once again talk about not only who you might get insurance from but
also exactly what your policy will cover in case there is an
accident, the coach is stolen, or there is a fire. If you have your
coach financed it is even more important to look at these questions.
Once you answer these questions then it is time to find an ensurer
that is reputable and will cover your coach for the price you are
willing to pay for.

Is your coach insured for its actual replacement value and if so do
you have an appraisel in writing to back it up, or will your ensurer
look at the bluebook value of the coach and base your loss on
that? This may seem like a trivial matter but its better to discuss
it now then to have a loss and find out the insurance company has an
entirely different idea of what your coach is worth then you do.

In any case good luck and keep your eyes open. Some people think that
they only need liability insurance and that may be true as long as
you have deep pockets and can just write off the coach.

When had our accident progressiv was great, the only thing I would suggest is
with the older
birds is to get an apprasel and submit that when you get your insurance. At
first the blue
book value was in question, I showed some recent sales and it worked out. but
having an
agreed value would help alot if there is a total loss progressive said if the
cost of fixing the
bird is more than 65% of the value it is considered a total loss.

A lot depends on the companies that are licensed in the state you are going
to declare as your home state.

When we were working as travel nurses, we made SD our home state. There is a
mail forwarding service there, Alternative Resources, that will walk you thru
becoming an SD resident. You do not have to live there or own property. This
is why so many fulltimers have SD license plates. Some of the benefits are:
NO state income tax
NO state inheritance tax
NO personal property tax
NO intangible tax on investments
3% excise tax on purchase of vehicles, RV's.
LOW vehicle licensing fee.
Rank 47th in lowest private passenger car insurance rates
South Dakota taxes nation's lowest per capita

We used GMAC which had an office next door to AR. If you get the GMAC credit
card you will save more money too.
