Starting Batteries

I was wandering what starting batteries was good for a 3208 300 HP TA. When
I got mine it had deep cycle batteries in the engine compartment. They were
675 CCA . When I went to get new batteries today I looked at starting
batteries that were 875 CCA .He said they were the same as they put in a Ford
Truck
with a Diesel engine. I looked at my truck & sure enough that is what it had
in it. He said Interstate did make a commercial battery that big trucks use.
Now I am confused as what to get. Any opinion on what is the best CCA ? What
does everyone else use.

Don, I just installed 4 new Trojan's in my coach. My other batteries lasted a
little over 3 years. Ernie-83pt40 in Texas

Hi All Thanks for the info on the batteries. I have 4 Trojans for the
coach that are 135's. They are 2 years old & doing a good job. My starting
batteries are on a isolator as they don't run down when the coach batteries
do. Is
that the function of the Isolator? I guess I will look for the highest CCA
that I can get & still fit in the space of the hold down. I have heard that
you can use six volt & twelve volt if they are not in the same bank. Is that
not true? I have been running the six volts in the coach & twelve volt deep
cycle for the engine for two years without any trouble. I just thought that
the starting batteries are better for the engine that the deep cycle.

Bill, Are you batteries all in one compartment? Mine doesn't have a
dedicated battery for the genny.& I don't think it has an alternator. I'll
check
tomorrow to see.

Don,

You may want to know, if the Cat start battery and the coach
batteries are all tied together or are they separated.
Mixing batteries may not be a good idea.
Our 300 HP 3208 and coach batteries are all tied together in the FC.
There is a separate battery for the Onan, with its own dedicated
alternator.

I believe the Onan battery is also charged by the 3208 alternator
and the 110V charger, using blocking diodes. I am a little unsure
of this last statement. I have not had any trouble here, so I have
not explored the wireing schematics.

I dont think the SP has room for four trojans in the back like the
PT does. My SP has two Interstates ..do not know theCCA but would
recommend highest. My Interstate batteries are two yrs old and
fine.. Even after six months disconnected...BAM..right up!
Wish Naty & I could attend the Texas rally..hello to everyone who
might remember us...Maybe we can get one in next year as we plan to
travel back East sometime after the WSOP in July. I just love
Nebraska in July..just kidding!.

Don,
I have a 86 pt 40 the batteries that came with the bird sucked, the owner had
all kinds of
problems, i lived on a boat for 7 years, deep cell is the way to go. I went with
interstate their
strongest deep cell in my case the gen set has it's own battery that is hi crank
out put. I like
interstate is because the price is ok the warrenty is great & they all country
wide, I have had
no problems in a year of service, trojens are good also

U will love the Trojan Batteries.........I have two six volt T-105's
on motorhome under here(Aus) and they are five years old and are
like new....connected to two solar panels and stay around 13.8.

battery note
on my interstate batteries to make them fit I had to cut the handles off, which
I have in
writing it doesn't void the warrenty if the casing is not cut. I just used a
sawsall fit perfit
