Bill, You say "Hope it is not the big black rotary switch". That brings
another improvement to mind.

Yesterday a couple of us were discussing Birds. The subject came up of
replacing that rotary switch with an automatic switchover unit. Have you
or anyone replaced that switch with an automatic unit, or looked at
doing so and what were the issues?

The major issue of replacing a manual switch with an
automatic transfer unit, is the size reduction in
one's wallet: LOL - even relatively small units (100
amp) are not cheap.

As John says, they are not cheap. But it was easy to replace the one
in our '73. Just told the guys at Broken Wheel RV (now theres a name
for a repair shop!) to "Fix It".
Actually, it was a lot cheaper than replacing the Rotary Switch, which
had a couple of the contacts badly burned. I think they quoted a new
Rotary at over $300.
For simplicity,(read CHEEEP!!) our prior SOB motorhome had the outlet
from the Generator in the Shore Power cable compartment. You either
plugged the Shore Cable into the campground recipictal or into the
"Generator Plug". Not much to go wrong here.
