Cross Posting
As new people join the WL world (like myself), we are not familiar with
the specific issues that have occurred between different WL yahoo groups
(I am aware of the split). Neither are the specifics of much concern.

However, what is of concern is that I/we respect what has happened in
the past and not intentionally (or unintentionally) pour salt in the
wounds of others who have been around much longer.

So far, I have found valuable information on both groups and I have no
preference with one or the other. When I post questions, I want to
reach the broadest user base that I can and so I have been cross posting
to both groups.

Am I ruffling anyone's feathers by doing this? You can respond to me
off-line if you want.

If I (and other new users) need to seek one group or the other for
certain types of questions, then I/we will have to spend more time
developing knowledge and relationships with each of the groups.

For future consideration, I don't think the memberships of either group
will remain stagnant. New people will come and will have no idea which
group to post questions and will most likely join and monitor both
groups.

I searched the groups for any information on cross posts, but didn't
find anything, nor could I find anything in the files section.

Instead of developing a habit that might be annoying to people, I
thought I would just be bold and ask the question.

At minimum, I would think the moderators of each of the groups would
respond allowing some sort of record that new users can use to
understand the proper etiquette.

Welcome to our Forum Brian. You will find that there is little
difference between the Wanderlodge Forum and Wanderlodge Group.
Each is a spin-off of the original Wanderlodge Forum on Yahoo that
was started by Bruce Morris and Ernie Ekberg. Bruce had a vision
for a different kind of site that had more capability and decided to
make it a pay as you go site. Ernie, on the other hand wanted to
remain a free site, which you are in now under a new name. Gary
McFarland had purchased the old site domain and started that forum
up again.

Well, you probably want to know why we have these three forums and
what purpose does it serve? All I can say is: Vision and
personalities. All the forums are good and will provide you with
any information you want. Many members visit all three on a regular
basis. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is and there's no
point in discussing the reasons any further.

We look forward to your posts, questions and contributions.

Cross Posting
Many of us who participate in both/all forums are used to cross-
posting, I can't see any reason to discontinue it. Usually if I see
the same thing on more than one forum I will read it only once, or
reply only once. If it is particularly interesting or valuable one
might cross-post the reply also.

Brian,

The longer you participate in the various Wanderlodge forums you will find that
when you get right down to it we ALL have the same vested interest and that is
to support bird owners and wannabes/soon-to-be-bird-owners..... different
strokes for different folks when it comes to preferences on forum fomats but we
are still one big family when you get right down to the bottom line of sharing
information on and about birds. 8-)

Be assured that you're welcome @ all Wanderlodge forums.

Keep on cross posting.

Cross Posting
Hi, Brian (and all)--

We only participate in the two no-pay/Yahoo forums that your e-mail is addressed
to.

I guess the only thing I would add to this thread is that, out of respect for
the owners/moderators of each group, I usually do a separate post (identical
copy/cross-post) to each, rather than including both in the "To" line (and, no
criticism meant that you did this, Brian). At some point, it just seemed like a
polite thing to do (and Gary's e-mail with the short list of requests about
avoiding references to other groups seems to confirm this as a good idea to me).

Welcome to the Blue Bird forums, Brian! The combined forums represent a
fantastic online community of folks who are supremely generous and sharing of
their expertise and concern, and they are all just grand people! I may be
oversimplifying it a bit, but this last year, there just happened to be a few
differences of opinion about how to run an online forum; however, I hope you can
eventually get a sense that it's still all one big Blue Bird community that just
happens to be divided among a couple forums.

Say, the Pacific Northwest Blue Birders had 5 retreats in 2005 (many of them in
the southern part of WA), and we know from the direct experience of meeting each
other how grand our fellow Blue Birders are! Seeing that you are in Oregon, I'll
forward some info to you (announced earlier on the forums) on our first
scheduled retreat in 2006. Perhaps you can join us!
