Your panel in the rear is indicating just fine and you can operate with just
that side of the coach. You do not need to run the panel in the driver
area. You can put the system on and go to the rear of the coach and here the
boiler running. If it shuts down prematurely, there is a little reset button
in
the output line of the boiler.

Your front unit could have a problem with the reset in that line, a bad
thermister or it could have a bad board in the control unit.

I would need more intormation before I could tell you more. So the end
result is, you should be able to get ample heat with just the rear unit on. It
will provide heat on the driver side of the coach from front to rear.

I am going to do some looking in the archives, but I wanted to get my
heat on today.

When I turn on the boiler button in the bedroom, the light comes on
green and stays green as if the system is working. I then go to the
panel above the driver and press the boiler button and it turns red and
then within a few seconds the fault light comes on.

I tried it also without the bedroom control on and I still get a red
light and fault light at the driver panel.

After I press the boiler button on the driver's panel, I hear a humming
sound outside somewhere (sounds like the front of the coach) and then a
'pop' kind of sound.

I have the inverter on, I am plugged into 20 amp shore power to keep a
charge on the batteries. The water system is winterized (no water in
the coach) and the water heater breaker is turned off. I have the
Summer/Winter switch turned to Winter.

I am just trying to heat the coach, but I am not sure what is wrong. My
guy who was working on the coach after I first bought it indicated that
all heating systems worked fine.

Brian
The two controllers (switches) are seperate from each other as I recall.
On controller (front) operates the left side exchangers and the other
controller operates the right side exchangers.
It has been awhile since our 91 coach but I believe they controll each
individual boiler.
And of course be certain you have plenty of propane!

Ron,

What other kind of information do you need to get the front panel
working? This is the main panel and I do want to get it all working.
We are cold here and I will need both sides working, plus the storage
bays. Also, I want to get everything on the coach working.

Any idea what the hum and then pop sounds might be? Is something else
happening?

Ok, here is what is happening with the front panel. I had someone press
the button for me while I tried to see what was happening.

When the front panel boiler button is pressed, the boiler sounds like it
is on, but there is very light white smoke coming from the top of the
boiler and kind of a hum noise (like it is fired, trying to fire or
something). The boiler light on the panel is red and so there is some
sort of problem and then a little while later the fault light comes on.

This is the first time I have tried to run the heater since buying the
coach. It did work in the past according to the previous owner and my
mechanic.

Any ideas?

Don't care if it's cold or not, one unit can handle you. I've
operated with one unit down to zero degrees.

The humming and pop is the pump running and the firing of the boiler
probably. All normal.

Simplest troubleshoot is to check the reset in the line of the output
side of the boiler and then check to see if driver area control will
fire system. If not, then you have to check the thermistor, which
will be the one in the galley under the overhead cabinet on the driver
side. It is a small black plastic finned unit about the size of a
silver dollar and 3/4inch thick. Remove it and disconnect the two
wires. Keep them separate and try firing the unit from the panel. If
it fires, touch the two wires together and it should shut down the
unit. If it doesn't fire, more then likely you have a bad board in
the controller. It is possible that the board on the boiler is bad
too, but you have to go through it methodically. The boards are
pretty expensive. Remove the controll panel and check all the
connections and inspect to see if anything is obvious.

I can't help you much past that, other than to make sure you have
adequate coolant in your reservoirs in the upper rear of your engine
compartment. Those reset buttons in the output lines are high
temperature cut-outs and when they go off, sometimes the reservoir
will blow out coolant from the steam that develops in the line.

If push comes to shove on tripping of the high-temp reset, then simply
take the wires loose and connect them by-passing that safety. This is
a redundant safety since there is another built-in to the boiler.

Hope that helps some.

The light white smoke indicates that the igniter is probably working
O.K., but you are not lighting the burner successfully. I've not
dealt with that problem before, so not sure if it is a propane supply
problem or the board on the boiler not turning on the propane. Since
I'm not there, no way to know. Make sure you follow the
troubleshooting guide that is provided in your manual that comes with
the system. It is referred to as a Fault Tracing Schedule. It should
give you some additional help. If you don't have it, let me know.
Unfortunately, I am at a rally till tomorrow and do not have my
scanner with me or I could send that portion to you.

Primus System
Brian I'm hoping Stephen Birtles chimes in here. He seems to know a thing
or three about these Primus systems.

Primus System
Thank you Ron.

I finally got a hold of my mechanic on the phone. Here is what we did
and I will see if the coach gets heat:

1. Make sure I was getting propane. Make sure LPG valve is on and
master switch on. Light stove. Works fine.

2. Turn on bedroom Primus boiler button. Light is green, but no
indication of boiler firing up (no sound, no noise, nothing).

3. With bedroom boiler button on, I turned on the drivers boiler button.
Boiler(s) begin to fire. Looks like steam and condensation coming out,
but eventually it calms down and sounds like normal boilers running.

4. Boiler button light at drivers panel is still red and the button at
bedroom is green. Manual says nothing about a red light.

After a while heat is being produced on both sides of the coach. Both
rheostat fan controls in the bathroom and kitchen work and push warm
air.

The front control panel still has a red light at the boiler button and I
can't find reference to it in the manuals, except vaguely when testing
control panel and adjusting temperature gauge. I can't tell if there is
an implication from the manual that the panel is not getting adequate
voltage or not when the red light is lit.

Everything seems to heat up fine so far. Bedroom is a little cold, but
hopefully it will warm up also. Can't find any coils except for under
the bed.

What bedroom layout do you have? I have a cross Queen. There is a
coil along the rear side bed isle which is on the drivers side
circuit. There is also a coil in the baseboard of the passenger side
of the vehicle at the foot of the bed and it is on the passendger side
circuit.
