Looks like I'll need some new batteries for the coach. Where do
people buy them? I saw some deep cycle 6 volt batteries for $48 at
Sam's Club today but they looked a little too tall to fit in the
compartment. (I haven't actually measured the ones in the compartment
yet)

Kerry it would seem that most 6v are around an inch taller than 12v. I've
always replaced my 12v with 6v and invariably this has resulted in some
modfications to accomodate their size. Seems to be a fact of life but maybe
someone on this forum knows of a 6v that is close to the height of a 12v.

It may have been an optical illusion since I didn't have a tape with
me when I looked at the existing 6v in the coach, but they seemed
about the same height as a 12 v. Could have been a 1 inch difference.
The ones I saw at Sam's club looked like they could be 3 inches
taller. I'll have to put a tape on them.

You should be able to buy just as good a battery from your local
Interstate battery dealer. I bought 4 of them for $60 each and if you
want to buy the same battery in a Blemished case(marks on them etc
from shipping) then they were $40.

Unless Interstate has changed their policy the so called blem battreies
are ones which are past a "good till" date. When you see Interstate
batteries in a service facility they are on consignment. The dealer
pays for them when they are sold. Interstate has a driver salesman who
services the battery rack. They keep them on the rack for a pre
determined amount of time. I dont remember that time length but I think
it is 6 months or less. If you buy an outdated battery the warranty is
reduced. I think you get one year?? We have used them in our off road
equipment and never had a problem.

One issue with batteries is their weight and the
freight cost of moving them from their manufactured
location (many from overseas) to where you want to
take delivery. But many specialty houses have worked
out their own delivery systems to get "fresh"
batteries to you, providing you can wait up to a week,
or you can take in-stock older at your own risk.

Within the last 6-8 months, a new franchise battery
operation, Batteries Plus, came to town and I was able
to get a very fair deal on installed coach batteries
manufactured by East Penn, but bearing the Batteries
Plus private label, "Werker." Looking for Deka brand,
and wanting to ensure apples to apples, I called East
Penn who confirmed they were identical.
