Yep - Last I heard from Bill was that he was going to test drive it
about noon. I told him that my old one was available for about 60K
less and that i would get it on the internet for him. I plan to be
checking with him in the morning. We just got in from the
entertainment - Debbie Reynolds - wow - she is still great at 74.

Hi Jeff,

Talked to Bill this morning and he bought the one from Holland.
Never looked at my old one - could have saved at least $60K - If you
know of anyone looking for a good bird at a good price, the one Mr.
Oliver has advertised for $145k is my old one. A hell of a deal for
that price and I imagine that is an asking price....

George, while I highly regard your informative posts, and obviously
your knowledge of your "old coach" I am curious. Many here have
expounded their opinions on a certain dealer and you seem to have a
totally different approach. While many, when they sell their coach to
a dealer, or in this case, a reseller have "washed their hands" of
their coach. Why do you continue to try and sell your old coach?

Why did you not sell it if it is in impecable condition? AND such a
great deal! (which I am sure it is ..your posts have been very
informative) You obviously have a great deal of time and energy in
making your trade-in next to perfect. I know you bought your new
coach and sold your old probably to the dealer, and he in turn sold
it to the Tx dealer.

The price thru a dealer in this case is substanially more than you
sold it for, which is none of my business obviously, BUT they must
make money as well, but inquiring minds would like to know.

You are probably the exception, not the rule, when it comes to
selling a coach thru a dealer.

As I have posted previously, regarding purchasing a BB from a dealer
that has little knowledge or "in it for profit and nothing else" I
wonder..with our coach for sale I just wonder how the process works?
If they would like to give me a great deal, as they must have given
you, then I have a wonderful, upraded 86FC they could purchase. As
long as I could purchase another BB. If you would like to explain

Hi Scott,

I have no problem answering this on the board....

We are full time now, have sold the farm and have no place to keep two
coaches. Even though the wife does drive, the idea of having to travel
with two and pay for parking of two coaches is not the best idea in
our opinion. The dealer was agreeable to take it in trade. We probably
could have done a bit better if we had been on the east coast as
Wanderlodges are not as well known or revered in the west as in the east.

The '95 BB that was sold today at the FMCA Convention had an asking
price of $211K - My old one had an asking price of $145K at Oliver's.
That is a difference of $66K. Knowing the condition of my coach, and
comparing the asking prices, I think that our old one is a better
deal. For example, it had new tires, new Deka Batteries, A link 2000R
inverter/charger control system, A new King Dome, New exhaust system,
new Dupree valves, and quite a few other updates that I can't remember
at the moment. I think it IS a good deal for someone and just wanted
to share that with the members on the board.

As to changing, mama wanted a coach with slides or more space. She now
has about as much as you will ever see. And keeping mama happy is
number one. We looked at the difference we had to pay to get the
features we wanted - features that WL has yet to offer at twice the
price. Personally, I would have still been happy with the WL or even
the old GM coach we had converted. But Mama is much happier with the
extra space.

We did not "sell it thru a dealer", we traded it for what we wanted,
and mama was the tough negotiator. We were happy with the difference.
The dealer did not want to keep anything without slides so wholesaled
it to Oliver. Oliver is offering it for less than we got for it. And
comparing it to what Holland is asking for the same year model coach,
I still think it is a good deal for someone.

I hope this makes sense to you. As you can see, there were a variety
of considerations, most important was keeping mama happy. We have both
passed three score and ten. Her happiness is paramount.

George, thanks for the answer. Does your wife "consult" when it comes
time to purchase? :>) Believe me I know what your saying about
keeping mamma happy! Interesting, how dealers can wholesale coaches
to one another and as we all know they all make money. Some just more
than others.

Hi Scott,

I am fortunate - normally we discuss and agree when it comes to any
large purchase (anything over $0.50) 8-) On the purchase of this
coach, she had definite things she wanted. I had a few and the smart
beds that are unique to the Apex are a definite relief to the old
joints and head. She did most of the actual negotiating though we did
consult when the salesman was checking with his boss. I think they
wanted to sell this coach bad as it was the first one they had
received. By selling it fast, they got several more.

I have never understood the retail vehicle business - I do wish that
we could get decision makers on the other side of the table instead of
go-betweens.....

They are George.

When they leave the table to "beat up the sales manager", they go into
another office, often the sales manager's, and tell him how much more
blood they think you have, then the two of them decide what their
counteroffer will be and what tire-kicker on the lot is "the other
couple making an offer on this coach". Just how the game is played. It
always embarrassed me how easy it is to separate people from their
money.
