How Do I Get A New Stove Top?

How Do I Get A New Stove Top?
I have a Magic Chef MDL# BT74G. It's 29 years old and it needs a new
chrome top. I called Magic Chef, gave them the MDL#, and they could
not find a reference for it.

Does anyone know of a distributor or anyplace of business that I can
get one from? Is it possible to refinish the exsisting top?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't done this but I have seen some that were powder coated. Although, it
can look a little burned around the elements after awhile.

Good luck.

Your best bet may be refinishing -- if the metal isn't rusted through
or weak. Look in the yellow pages for a metal plating service (or
search the Internet).

Although you didn't ask, there are also vendors who can refinish
(paint) other parts of appliances. I discovered this when I purchased
a home a few years ago that had a hideous turquoise built-in oven
dating from the mid-60s. It was an odd size (compared to what was
then available) so a straight out replacement would have required
difficult modifications to the cabinet. (We replaced the matching
cook top when we replaced the counters.) We lived several years with
the 'spacey styled' control panel once it was refinished in a more
contemporary almond color.

Thanks, Richard and Pete. I will look into having the top
refinished. Structually it is fine, just somewhat of an eye-sore.
Thanks again.
