New Tires
Leroy- a couple of years ago, we were coming back from the RIV, and had to
slow down for traffic. Brenda noticed a strange noise from her side of the
coach. Comes to find out that the steel had separated from the tread and thus-
new
tires were installed on our coach. The pain of writing the check was less then
the upcoming blowout that might have taken us all out.

Well, installing six new tires on the back of a WB-40 is akin to
sitting on a tack---very painful---but it did not happen one day to
soon! I've read the posts and they were correct. I could not believe
the extent of sidewall cracking when the tires were being removed from
the rims.

with a visual inspection with the tires on the coach. Is that

That is correct! I carefully inspect my coach in all areas on a cycle basis. I
knew the rear tires were old (DOT codes) and below I will give the age and what
I found so others can evaluate their position. Some things I noticed I do not
understand.
On the last two trips approx 2000 miles I lost a few deco lug nut covers. I
wondered why? I found out when the technician removed the wheels. 4 of the lug
nuts on the duals on each side were hand tight. Understand that I have put
20,000 miles on this coach with very few problems. I never considered checking
the lug nuts, in fact I do not have the tools to do the job. Perhaps someone on
this forum can shed light about keeping your lug nuts tight. Do I need an 11/2"
socket and a five foot bar or what? How did those lugs get loose?

As for the tires. The tag and outside dual tires were Michelen 12R 22.5 ZX
9years old with minor visual checking. Most of the noticable checking was
evident on the radius around the cap. Since I could not readily inspect the
sidewalls of the interior duals I had not idea as to their quality. The inside
tires on the duals were 6 years old. The sidewalls of the inside tires were
absolute trash, ready to go boom. Anyone have any idea on that? Three years
younger than the outside tires and no sun? Can't blame the ozone layer or UV
for that deal.

That tack feels better now. After all, the family rides in the bus.

Perhaps some things are to be left unexplained. I take care of my bus. I
watched the removal of the tires for a reason. I guess what I saw tells me to
reserve $70.00 per month and change 8 tires every 5 years whether they need it
or not. Frankly, what I saw wasn't pretty. I cannot ride my family around on
that kind of tire.

New Tires
I think you will find that the inside duals do not get checked properly. Lower
pressure can lead to higher tire temps and a faster breakdown of the inside
duals.
