tach sender?

At the top of this page:

you will see what I think is the tach sender.

It is loose in its hole and easily pulled out. There is a inch or so pin with a
gear that
comes out with the sender and is also loose.

First, is this part available and from whom? Detroit, BB or some other company.

Second, how should it be connected so it is not loose?

Third, are there any 'you should be careful abouts' that I should know about?
And how
should it be attached or put back in?
