Back home from a road trip and a power steering question.

without looking Idont know exactly what is on there at the reservoir
end but if it was high pressure it would be crimp if low pressure it
would br barbed i do believe the resevoir has a fitting on it that
would preclude machined or crimped ends I will loook later
whenit cools down

That the way we did it on last bus - '81FC. I wouldn't call easy for the guy
who was under the bus who had to catch the whole thing, it's heavy. There's no
other way if the gear must be removed to overhaul. But the hose thing was not
bad at all. I was very surprised to find a gold color door hinge under there.
Anybody know what I mean? I guess it was standard procedure then.

Steve Anderson over on the FC forum says he accessed the steering box
and hoses on his 79 from above by removing the driver's seat and a
floor panel. Anyone here try that on an 82? Seems like it would make
the job much easier.

You might consider that the only way the barbed fitting at the
reservoir would leak is if it was under pressure, which does occur
when the fluid heats since the reservoir is not vented.

Vent the reservoir, you might be leak-less.

My power steering can leaked as did the fittings going to and from
the can.
Bought a new can from BB. Cost $300. It has a vent tube and is a
little bit taller.
Had my local truck shop replace the can and the leaking hoses..not
cheap..had to modify the bottom of can, a little different than the
original. All labor cost was $1,400. A lot of time involved at 90
bucks an hour. No leaks now and tow car staying clean.
Until I had this done, drilled hole in top of can...works but not
for long term.
