Might be a P.O. was trying to make a 'poor man's' differential ratio change. Many of the early 80's busses were set up for the 55 mph national speed limit. Wouldn't the larger diameter tires reduce the RPMs for a particular speed?

I hope you are not getting out of birds for good Hank.
As the proud owner of a nearly identical 90SP36 who has
enjoyed your advice, I hope not.

Yes, Pete, that certianly is one way to do a (small) change in ratios.... But
the lower (numerically) the ratio goes, the more power it takes to pull it...
And these coaches, (especially mine), do not have a great abundance of power at
any time..
I can really tell the difference on my Jeep when I switch between the 31" & 35"
tires.

Chuck:
Thanks.....I really like this bird and was realizing just today how near new it
is with a lot of miles left on it. My best guess is that I'll move into the
condo at the end of the month, keep it for sale for a while and then put it in
storage to drive later.......I aint going to give it away.....This aint no fire
sale.........we have one of the best birds ever made..middoor.......bluebird
tried to duplicate the SP with the 380 but screwed up.....The only mistake they
made with the SP is not putting the 400 cummins in it. It cruises 75 mph on
flats but mountains are tougher for the 3ooCAT turbo, but how fast is fast
enough?

This aint no fire sale for me................My price is $64,900 and that is
it.. aint is a good word nowadays aint it???

Thanks for your interest and nice comments Chuck. What makes this Forum so nice
is the interaction and help among the owners of similar birds.........Take care,
Hank Hannigan
90SP36 for sale in Vegas.....$64,900 but NOT A FIRE SALE
42000 miles, new tyres, many extras....drive it and youll buy it!
