Landing strips by Ranger Design

Does anyone have any experience with this product? They are shown on
page 185 of the May 2005 issue of FMC. My coach is parked on a
concrete pad beside the garage. Is there a need for this kind of tire
protection or is it just another gimmick? I do have the tires covered
to protect them from the sun.

I had several email conversations with these folks
but could never get any real answers about sizes, etc.

For several years, I have been using 1/4"
Plexiglass-like stuff (can't recall name of material
used for replacement in glass windows) from Home
Depot, screwed to concrete to keep in place. Have to
replace a couple every 24 months or so as they
eventually craze, crack and break.

As for the concept - Michelin folks convinced me
years ago to always keep something between the tires
and surface. Seems to assist in keeping up inflation
quite well.

I have a set of these which I use when parked on the cement pad next
to the house. I also have tire covers on the tires. For the price
you pay for a set of Michelin's, it's worth the extra few dollars for
tire covers and landing strips.

From a previous post by Bob Janes on the Forum:
"I called Michelin headquarters today and spoke with a gentleman in
the Truck Tire Division to ask "WHY" it was necessary to use a
barrier for motor home to park on concrete.

The answer given to me by Gregg was that concrete leaches out the
oil, waxes, and emollients of the rubber diminishing the ability of
the tire to perform properly."

If you have a BigLots or some type of household surplus store around,
go look at the cutting boards in the kitchen supply section. Last time
I looked they had a 12"w x '18"l x 1/2" thick board made out of the
hard white plastic surface that was flexible enough to not break. The
had a whole stack of them for around $3.00 each, if memory serves,
they had a hole in them to hang them up too.
