Not a dumb question, but no, I would not want to bet my life or those of my
Family on a pin hole. Replace it

Kinda hard to compare a soft sided air bag to a hard sided tire- in my
opinion

Scott,
There is no such thing as a dumb question but sometime you might get a dumb

Howard:

I carried a plug gun for just such emergencies, to get me into the next
town for a replacement. Too many years in the tire industry I guess, and
been through too many tire failures with patches.

I just see no reason not to replace a defective part if in a place to do it
safely.

Could you patch it? You might be able to get a plug to hold 'till you
get to a service center, I wouldn't bet my vacation on it though.

The DOT won't allow patches in tire sidewalls, because they're designed
to flex and a hole is a stress riser (among other reasons I'd imagine).
The entire airbag is a sidewall, constantly flexing.

A hole in a tire is usually a good tire which has been punctured by a
road hazard, a hole in an airbag is usually the beginning of a failure
of an old airbag. Air doesn't puncture bags, but it will escape through
a failure point. I'd expect a hole to fairly soon turn into a larger
hole or a tear.

Replace it.
