87 FC SB Owners manual needed

87 FC SB Owners manual needed
I am helping a fella with his acquisition of a 1987 FC35SB here in
Springfield. The Bird has been used VERY little over the past 2
years and some things are not functioning OR I don't know the
procedure to make them work.

If someone could fax their owners manual to me, I may be more
helpful in getting these things to work.


The leveling jacks are controlled by levers OUTSIDE on the passenger
side. There are a couple switches next to the jack levers, what do
these do?

There is a switch on the dash that is labeled "Master Air Level" and
then one that is labeled "suspension dump" and it is either on or
off. What is the function of so many switches to either be aired up
or dumped?

My PT has air dump valve switches not electric...

Jay,

I have an 87FC, but it is different than the one you are describing.
My leveling jack levers are inside, on the floor just to the left of
the driver seat. There are no ouside levers.

Also, I have no "Master Air Level" switch, just the "Suspesion Dump"
switch which airs up/empties the air bags.

Perhaps the coach you have has an air-leveling system in addition to
the jacks, or maybe one of the first 87's which had some proto-typing
going on with the jacks/leveling systems? I don't know - maybe someone
else (like Jeff) has seen this configuration you have and provide more
info.

In any case, I don't think my owners manual will help you, but
feel free to call me if you have questions. I'll send my phone
numbers to your e-mail.

87 FC SB Owners manual needed
Hi Rick,
Mine has the controls on the outside like Jay is referring. In the
manual it speaks of this panel only on the 35er's.

It is not both Air Level and Hydralic Level, Air Suspension and
Hydralic Leveling.

The MASTER has to ON for either system to work, however, the jacks
can be lowered with everything OFF. (Must be pressure release through
the lever control valves)

BTW, if the suspension is too high, the air springs will not inflate,
Hieght Control Relays are closed.

on the dash. The air level master is a blank plate on my coach. In the
manual it says that this switch needs to be on for the leveling jacks
to work.I can fax some of the pages you may need, the manual is
somewhat large.

87 FC SB Owners manual needed
The air dump switch is like yours, only electric.

The "master air level" switch would suggest that it is equipped with
the optional (and very rare) air leveling system available '87-'89,
which would likely include an auxiliary air pump (another dash
switch) and air dump valves. The air leveling system is like Country
Coach (for example) uses to level the coach when parked. Air
leveling is used instead of the hydraulic jacks, it is nice on soft
ground or where the jacks could do damage, but since it leaves the
weight on the airbags and tires it rocks more as you walk around
than does the hydraulic leveling. Cool option.

87 FC SB Owners manual needed
Thanks to all that replied to my request for the owners manual and
the leveling jacks question, the information you provided both on
the forum and by e-mail were extremely helpful!

The fella that I have been helping out, became a Wanderlodge lurker
about 10 days ago. He found a 1987 FC35SB in pretty good shape here
in Springfield, IL. The seller was the 2nd owner, had it since 1990.
The previous owner paid $150,000 in 1990.

The fella that was selling it from Springfield, indicated that the
Bird needed only 2 things repaired- an awning arm and something else
trivial that I don't remember.

NOW, The REALITY-
tires 10 years old
batteries 10 years old
bent Firestone aluminum wheel
Belts looked original w/Bluebird emblem on the belts
Jacks do not function at all- nuthin'!
All gas stuts are bad, I mean ALL of them
Generator cooling fan has no function
The refrigerator doesn't work
wheel hub leaking on right front
The water tank fill solenoid sticks
needs the headlamp update procerdure
turn signals on the side of the Bird(right side only) don't work
there's more, can't remember it all....

Alan Johnson from Dallas, TX is the new owner, good guy.
Before leaving Springfield for Dallas, he had the local truck shop
do EVERY fluid, belt and hose as well as fix the hub thing. I think
the shop had about 28 man hours on it.

We installed 6 6Volt T-105's and new cable ends, tried to diagnose
the gen cooling fan, figure out the jacks, etc.

The nice part of this rig is that it is unmolested(butchered
electrical for example), the interior is really nice, the paint is a
7 on a 10 scale(nice), its a 300hp Cat, it has a nice floor plan(1
couch, 1 chair & table), the step works properly.

Alan should be back in Dallas by Friday afternoon or evening with
his "new to him" 87 FC35SB. Alan restored a GMC motorhome, one of
theose that is front wheel drive, so he has some experience with
many of the systems. I am sure he will appreciate any support we
have to offer.

87 FC SB Owners manual needed
Yeah, I looked that coach over last winter, it was pretty needy and
the owner (a smoker) was quite proud of it. I hope he got much more
realistic on price.
