KEEPING YOU POSTED…

What a turn out! The only question is, when is the next rally.

The Fall 2006 Southwest Bluebird and friends Rally took place this
past weekend. WONDERFUL PEOPLE meeting unfamiliar faces for the first
time, and meeting familiar faces. It was great to see the familiar and
the faces that have only been typed characters for so long.

Units started arriving Thursday morning. The last unit arrived
Saturday evening in time for dinner, making the unit count 29. The
participant head count was about sixty to seventy. The Birds ranged in
years from 1973 to 1995. The SOBs (some other brands) ranged in years
from 1987 to 2007. The SOBs out did the Birds, 15 SOBs to 14 Birds.

The weather could not have been more perfect, warm and sunny days,
nice cool evenings with fire pits, and great conversation.

A Club House was assigned to our group for our exclusive use. Friday
evening at the club house everyone brought their Best Hearty Hors
D'oeuvres. After all the Hors D'oeuvres, I doubt if anyone cooked
dinner Friday evening.

Saturday morning featured leaded and unleaded coffee, pastries a
bunch, etc. and enjoyed by all.

Saturday morning included tech talk featuring demos and setup of the
latest Gates belts that will last 150,000 miles, and satellite
internet discussions. All good information.

Saturday's Flying Flags RV Resort catered (free) Italian dinner
included lasagna, salad, pizza, etc., and an ice cream social. It was
a feast beyond belief.

The SOBs showed up at the Friday and Saturday evening gatherings
wearing shirts to prove they are SOBs…shirts with large SOB lettering
on the front. Talk about a Great sense of Humor. Everyone enjoyed that.

Solvang is near. Folks spent their days there enjoying all the shops,
etc. Golfing is near by and several spent Saturday hitting the ball
around the golf course. Wine tours (tasting too I'm sure) were taken
in by several. A wonderful pool to enjoy. The events are many within
a few miles from this resort.

Donna and Jack Smith showed off their new dog. If you haven't met the
Smith's, well, maybe you'll have the opportunity to attend the next
rally to see the dog(s).

We must make mention of three units that traveled a good distance to
attend this rally. Blair and Lynn McIntire traveled 800 miles, Dick
and Joyce Hayden traveled 1,400 miles, Bill Schreurs and Vadie Bond
traveled 9,000 miles and departed camp this morning having 3,000 miles
to go. You'll need to meet these wonderful folks to hear their unique
stories.

Lucas Willemse, very talented technician, helped get Perkins gen.
units perking as they should perk, as well as other repairs on
participant's coaches. Lucas, we all Thank You! Much appreciated!

Sunday morning was the traditional group picture gathering/taking at
9:00. Pictures taken at this rally will be available for viewing in a
few days. You'll be kept informed.

A number of units stayed for an additional day. They planned to BBQ
Sunday evening and enjoy each others company. Someone said something
about painted rocks. Fill us in on this one.

Phil Corpus & Curt Sprenger, your rally coordinators.

PS: Flying Flags RV Resort is great place to hold a rally, or just
stop in on your way through the highway 101/Buellton area. We all were
parked in Premium Spaces. Long pull through (approx. 65 feet), more
than wide enough for awnings out and toad/trailer parked either in
front/behind or aside.

PPS: Flying Flags RV Resort will go all out to support groups of
Rv'ers. The gal working our group was Georgeann. Georgeann did an
outstanding job supporting us.

Thanks for the great report on the Southwest Rally. Sure is nice
to see all the rallies going on around the country. Maybe one of
these days, we will be in your area to attend.

All of you are sure welcome to attend any of the Lone Star Birds
Rallies in Texas. Next one is early December. Contact me if you want
more information.

Some of us discussed the possibility of a joint SWBB and LSB rally at
Hacienda in Las Cruces. A group of Western Rally alumni met new BB
Friends there for New Years 2005. What a great place to hold a
rally! Thoughts?

Tom,

I like the Las Cruces joint rally thought. Is this for New Years 2006,
2007, or another time? It's somewhat of a long drive, but I'd consider
making it. Anyone know when the balloon festival is held?

It does not need to be tied to New Year's as many plan different
events then. Let's see what response we get from the members from
SWBB and LSB.

I know about ballon festival in Albuquerque in early October. Do
they have one also in Las Cruces? When we went, we stopped in
Tuscon and then to Hacienda. A little long but worth the trip.
White Sands was worth it all by itself. It was like driving through
mountains of snow, drifts and all, but in the desert. People were
even sliding down the dunes as if they were snow.

I would be in favor of that kind of rally, but think it would have to
be about 4 days long to make it worth the drive. We are looking at 2
days travel each way for most of the Texas crowd.

I have stayed at the Hacienda numerous times and love the place. One
day could be spent at White Sands. There is good Mexican Food there.
You are only a stones throw from El Paso and Mexico. We would have
to have at least one good technical program also.

We could do Quartzsite in January also.
