Sticky tach 90SP36
My tach will frequently jump from around 2000 to 1000 (with no
significant change in real rpm). And will continue to move up and down following rpm changes until I tap on the class. What causes this and what are the remedies? Thanks Chuck harrison 90 SP36 Akron, Ohio |

Trash in the jeweled pivot bearings, or hair spring return,
warped or trash on face plate, intermitently open or shorted coil winding, logic circuit, solder joint or contacts of the dip switches, post connection loose. Fortunately you have isolated it to the meter by tapping on the glass. Check mfgr for repair shop however repair may not be able to duplicate problem and not fix. Tape the connecting wires while you have it out so you can still use the coach. Chuck Harrison,
I was having a problem with my tach doing the same as yours. Someone on the forum gave me the address of APT Instruments International Inc., Bloomington, Mn.. Call Chuck at 952-881-7095. He was reasonable and I had about a 10 day turn around. Good Luck. Chuck,
I had the same problem. Unless your Tach is different than mine (Teleflex) it is not designed for repair. With nothing to lose I carefully removed the front bezel holding the glass by bending the edge where it had been crimped, removed the nuts on the connectors and took the works our. There was a wire and connector used to set the correct frequency for the pulse generator and the solder was broken. Since I wasn't going to change the adjustment I removed the wire and connector and bridged the correct contacts. It has worked fine ever since. I already had the dash out, fixing the tach took about four hours. You can get a replacement at a marine that handles equipment for diesel yachts. - Chuck Wheeler - 82 FC 31 SB Fort Worth, TX _____ From: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com [mailto:WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of williamcharrison Sent: Wednesday, August 30, 2006 9:15 AM To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Sticky tach 90SP36 My tach will frequently jump from around 2000 to 1000 (with no significant change in real rpm).
