I hope this msg doesn't break any forum rules - just wanting to let
people know my '87 BB FC-35 is up for auction on eBay. Others have said
my price seems reasonable, so if you're in the market for nice 'Bird,
give it a look.

Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy,
Checked out your FC ad on eBay. Nice looking coach. In the interest of
accuracy, Bluebird
used the 250 hp turbo 3208 from 1984 through 1986 model years. Naturally
aspirated
225 hp 3208's were used prior to 1984 model year. While more horsepower is
generally
better, I think your ad overemphasizes the difference and makes earlier coaches
sound like
junk, which they aren't. Good luck with your sale!

In the spirit of "accuracy" the 225 Intercity was installed very late '82 to 83,
it is a turbo-charged engine.
NA were of 210hp and CA emission 190hp or something like that.

"Historical Note: 1987 is the first year that Bluebird used the
turbocharged 300 horsepower CAT Diesel Engine in these coaches. Until
that time, lower horsepower naturally aspirated engines, with much less
power, were the norm. So, if you're looking at "vintage 'Birds" you
really will like the added power of the 300 CAT, especially when you
get into the mountains. It's one BIG reason to buy an '87 rather than
an '86 or earlier model!"

I dont see where Randy implied that earlier models were junk. His
words " much less power" are truthfull. I would call 16.6 % to 25 %
much less. As for the remark on mountain driving: I have seen this fact
posted by many owners of the lower HP versions. I too would suggest to
a wannabee that the 87 to 89 does have more power. However the earlier
models do have that "Classic" BlueBird look. The earlier models are
certainly not junk. Randy has been trying to sell this unit for a few
months and I am sure he wants to see it gone. Anything he can do to
make people want his unit is fair. Good luck Randy!!

Folks:
I have one of the last model year 83 FC's built and mine is a 250hp
turbo - stamped on the plate along with the BB arrangement number -
I would assume that most 3208's following mine would have the 250hp
turbo (non-CA emission).

For sale on eBay '87 FC-35
Hello Mike, Randy and Company,

OK, I stand corrected on the hp/naturally aspirated/turbo/model year issue.
First, let me
say that I don't have my FC up for sale and don't intend to anytime soon. I
don't consider
myself the judge and jury on ebay or other ads, but I'd like to say a couple
more things
about Randy's eBay ad that prompted me to write about it.

One thing I should have said, but didn't, was that I thought Randy did an
outstanding job
of speaking to the pluses and minuses of his coach. Some folks tend to
accentuate the
positive and let you see if you can find the negative.

The thing that bothered me were some inaccuracies in the "historical note" but
more than
that was the idea of selling it by saying how superior it was to earlier models.
We all
recognize that engine horsepower and performance and coach size increased over
the
years. I'd just prefer that when we decide to sell a coach we do it by listing
it's pluses and
minuses but without trashing other models. I don't see it done often but I
thought it was
worth a comment. No offense intended.

Hi Eric,

I admit limited knowlege of Bluebird production specs. This is a cross-reply so
I'm not the person to whom this was intended, just FYI and to avoid confusion.

I have owned two different '83 FC 35 coaches and both had the 250 HP TD. That
wouldn't be possible if Bluebird didn't offer the turbo until the '84 model
year.

FWIW....

Hi Harry!

Glad to hear you still have the 'bird!

Can't tell you how much we enjoyed those photos from your Alaska trip. I was so
jealous!

We bought another '83 FC 35 two weeks ago. Have since moved to near Houston. A
friend who has a large storage warehouse in the downtown area has talked me into
selling it to him with the understanding that I can borrow it from time to time
for out of town trips. We haven't finalized the deal but most likely will next
week.

I sure like these coaches...

Hello Jack,
I based my earlier remarks on the model year information on the Vintage Birds
website.
This discussion has reminded me that Bluebird production transitions features
from year
to year rather than making a clean break. The main point I originally wanted to
make in
the first message was that Bluebird produced turbocharged 3208 powered coaches
prior
to 1987. I'm no expert on this subject either.
