I am ready to take the first trip in my 78FC33. I got my Jeep setup
to tow, got the heaters working, got a new propane detector with
auto shutoff and a new CO detector, fresh oil & filters, spare
filters for everything. The am/fm stereo works, but I don't have any
8 tracks for it. I have lots of tools, wire, connectors, volt/ohm
meter, tire guages, air hose, sewer hose, potable water hose, other
hose for cleaning dump hose, rubber gloves, and a ton of other
useless wonderment that I might need over a hundred year period.

I am going from North Jersey to southern New Hampshire on October
13th (maybe 250 miles). We will be staying at the Field & stream
campground in Brookline, NH. From there we will take the toad up to
Plymouth to visit my son at Plymouth state University, and then back
to the campground and leave the next day.

If all goes well I will be back on the forum Sunday OCT.15th in
the evening.

Where is Brookline? We will be there visiting our Son and his Family
about that time. Will fly in on Oct 8 and leave for home on Oct 17.
We will be in Newton NH. Coffee Pot on??
I well remember our first trip. Got 12 miles from home & the torque
converter let loose...
2nd try---got 30 miles pas Las Vegas & old rotten hester bypass hose
let go. Rest of trip fun, of sorys...

Gardner,

Have a fantastic time and savor the adventue. We were given some excellent
advice by two fellow RV'ers we encountered this past spring while at the Blue Ox
Factory during our Maiden Voyage in ToWanda: When something happens that you
didn't plan on don't get upset. Instead, take advantage of the learning
opportunity life has just presented you and you'll be ahead of the game for the
experience it gives you in return.

As we now like to say, "What did we learn new today?"

Gardner,

Why not take a pre-maiden voyage and come join us in Long Island? The
advantages are.
1.) It's not too far, you'll save fuel
2.) Great comradere
3.) If you can survive NY streets, bridges, low overpasses and the
guessing game of which Parkways your allowed on and where! You can
drive anywhere!

Gardner, We all hope your first trip goes well. There are many great
stories of maiden voyages. Ours included 3 bad tires in the first 40
miles out of Atlanta. 2 out of 3 were operator error. Have fun and

What was the 'operator error' that cost two tires? Preaswure or road
hazards?

I store the coach about 20 miles from my home, so I drive it back
and forth to work on it. I have put maybe 150 miles on it this way
and have had no problems. I think it will make the trip, but will all
the other systems keep working? Only the Shadow knows!

Tom,
I was considering it, but as you said I was puzzeled over which
route I could take without taking the roof off or getting a ticket.
I also tried to figure out how to make reservations at the
campground, but the web site leaves a lot to be desired.

All in all, I need to do a lot of che3cking and prep work this
weekend to be ready for the NH trip, so I don't think I will make it.

Gardner,

I'll take all your worries away! If you follow the directions the
campground website gives, it will get you there, roof intact and no
tickets.
For reservations just call and leave a message and they'll call you
back. I think there's plenty room.
As far as checking things, more heads are better than one! Shane
informed me, him and his Dad are looking for projects!
Maybe you could come just for a night and a day, and get ready the
rest of the weekend.
No pressure, I'd just really like to see the old coach all cleaned up!

Tom,
I'll give it some thought, but I would most likley only have
Saturday night/Sunday available. I have too many other things to get
done around the house aside from the coach. If I don't make it, start
