Hydraulic Fluid...
Does anyone know what type of oil is recomended to go in the hydraulic
tank that is located on the curbside rear corner of the engine bay of
our 98 LX? From what I can tell the main purpose is to drive the
radiator fan. The fluid level is just above the "add" mark and I
thought I might top it off before we leave in 2 weeks!
Thanks,

My 94 uses 10W30 and manual says to run it through a filter cone (not sure
of micron size) before putting it in the tank.

I also meant to ask if that run anything other than the fan? I noticed the oil
in it now has a red tint to it. I thought it was trans fluid at first, but it
is proabaly just dyed.

I believe in my case my power steering is incorporated into the system.

John:

My '97 BMC on a Spartan K-2 chassis uses Dexron III in the hydraulic system.
System runs fan as wdll as power steering.

Spartan recommends changing fluid and filters every two years.

If there is a problem with the system, fan shuts down first, then steering.

On the lid of your reserviour should be a sticker to tell the specs on the
oil you should be using.
The information is also in your Blue book under 'Power steering and
hydraulic cooling fan'.
The system in our coach requires Rando HD32 hydraulic oil.
