Wives and Coaches
Ralph,

Great advice. This is something I've considered doing many times, but never
did it. Like a lot of wife's and SO's, they have not a clue regarding our
beloved BB's, and any new buyer would probably steal our pride and joys
(mechanical) from our grieving (hopefully!) widows.

Thanks, like always, Ralph.

Have a great Holiday...stay warm!!

Wives and Coaches
Hello everyone:

I am recently back from a foray to the frozen North with expectations of
driving a Coach home for Charolette and I. I did not take the Coach, as it
had more problems than the owner knew about and in taking the Coach to a
dealer that has no idea what a Wanderlodge is much less what it is out
fitted with. So the add was based on a build sheet the dealer supplied the
Wife with, ergo, the Coach add was mis represented. This was not done as an
owner stating things on the Coach that were not there; ie; swing radiator,
rediline, no engine problems and on and on. Point is, the owner, whose
husband had passed away a short time ago, simply had no idea what was and
what was not. There was no malice in the mis representation, the wife did
not know!

Point of this post is, guys, don't make this mistake, you know what is in
your Coach, such as up dates, maint. records, options on the Coaches. I
implore you to sit down this winter and write up a list on your Coaches.
Heaven forbid, anything were to happen, like stepping off a curb and
getting hit, sudden health problem or being in a work accident or an
accident on the way to or from work. Give your spouses or SO's the tools
they need to work with in trying times. Most wives will probably not keep
the Coach around for several reasons, the main one being too many memories,
the second being, even just sitting plugged in they can be costly on a now
fixed income.

This trip cut into our Coach buying budget considerably only to find no joy
because the husband did not give the wife any idea of what she had or how
to deal with it.

So I implore you: Take the time, this winter, to do a write up on your
Coach and file it away in the blue box so as not to leave your wife
stranded. With this information, members on this or other Forum can help
her to set a fair price on the Coach, so she will not be taken to the
cleaners and help her move the Coach with some assurances that she is being
fairly dealt with. And be honest in the write ups list the things that need
to be done as well as the positives.

Safe travels,

I hope not to leave anytime soon, but I did begin summarizing any issues,
squawks, upgrades etc. last month. I had previously developed a maintenance
check list. It's a good idea.

I might also suggest the other toys us guys own. I have a home shop machine
shop, along with many pieces of farm equipment. My wife does not have a
clue on the value of these items.

Getting back to the main theme of the original post, while doing an
inventory on other things is important, the write up I am talking about is
on the Coach and placed in the blue box. Not setting values at this time,
only giving whom ever a list of down items as well as up grades. The Coach
is going to a one item thing no matter the up grades or tires or?? But a
list of things done to the Coach that includes the down items, so whom ever
can come up to the Forum and have the answers written down in front of them
for the certain questions that are going to be asked, that way they can get
a learned idea of that present day's value, rather than having someone who
does not know Bird's saying to them, well there are no slides and it is an
old motor home so it should go for x amount and that amount be 10K under
what it is worth, this last is a for instance only.

I am not advocating writing a will, that belongs to Law firms or whom ever.
Let's not go there as it gets away from the topic and muddies the waters.

GREAT POINT Ralph. A few months ago I was contacted by a daughter in
Mass. who saw a news paper article about the Myrtle Beach Rally,(not
sure how she saw it but she did) regarding her parents "camper" She
was trying to help her mother sell their "camper" as her father had
passed. Mom was struggleing with the "red camper" out in the barn
because it held so many memories. She did not have a clue or care to
all she wanted was it gone and to a nice person who will take care of
it and not get taken to the cleaners. I could not resist the story so
I started with the phone calls and questions. Motor in
back..ok...they thought late 80's etc you know the drill.

Low and behold when the pics arrived that is when the work started.
THEY KNEW NOTHING..Dad did all the maintenance. Turns out it was a
84FC and a nice one at that. It was very difficult to get correct
info..almost to a frustration level of "what am I doing this for"
but I did persue it because she was a very nice lady that needed some
help. Exactly as you describe above.

Some would/could have travelled by air, hotel bills, etc for a pusher
(as she said) when it was a FC and 5 years older than she thought.
Could be a recipe for bad feelings. No fault to her..her husband
handled everything, she just enjoyed it tremendously. Hmmmm sounds
like Judi, actually.

AS A MATTER OF FACT I CONTACTED A FORUM MEMBER HE WENT TO CHECK IT
OUT AND HE BOUGHT IT. It was difficult for all concerned while the
buyer "did his homework for the past year, comming to rallies etc" it
was still confusing for him. Wasn't it Larry!

But, you are sooo right a simple write up of the coach will help in
the situation you are describing. Escpecailly, when one party does
not really want to discuss the coach and the other wants to know all
that they can.

Great post Ralph.

Scott,
Yes, you are so right about not getting to know what the coach gas or had
improvements on or how anything thing actually worked... it is a learning
process, I must say...

Wives and Coaches
Good points Ralph!
I was just telling my family yesterday about comming to the forum for
help if something were to happen to me, I sat down and showed them
how to log on to this site and others. I'm not sure if they would
have thought to even come here for help, and they would need it. I
dont think my wife would even know how to power up and start the
bus,,, ya she would need help.

Leroy Eckert,
You said you had developed a maintance check list. Would you please send me a
copy of it. Did you replace your microwave? What brand and model? Are you
satisfied with it so far.
