Backup Camera Cables

[freewill2008]

I hafta pull some wires the length of our bus behind the overheads and
would like to pull in what I need for a camera at the same time. (This
bus didn't have a factory camera installed.)

What kind of cabling do I need? I'm sitting on a bunch of coaxial RG62
cable with BNC connectors. Is that impedance close enough for a 35'
run? Also, does the camera need a 12v power cable also?

The RG-62 with a standard BNC's should work, I would test it before
installing it by doing a temporary connection with about 50-foot of it
directly to the TV.

You will also need an ignition-switched 12-volt signal wire.

Tim I would not use RG62 since it is a 93 ohm cable. You should use RG6
which is 75 ohms. Also make sure that the cable you buy has a good inner
braided shield to eliminate interference from getting on the cable.

If I were going out and buying cable for this, I would recommend an
RG-6 also, but since he has the RG-62 already, the run is under 50-
feet and he can pre-test it before installing it, I don't see any
problem with trying it. Worst case, it doesn't work and he has to go
buy some RG-59/6.

I have some extra RG-6 at home, I just ran two runs to the roof for
a satellite dish connection. Let me know if you need any.

Depends on the camera, and you need 12 volt power...use a relay and tap
into the bus
in the back ceiling.....also, use a 4' length of electric fence post to run
the wires.
quarter inch diameter and non conductive fiberglass, make's it much easier..
