Plumbing in a '95 BB
Both of my house water pumps were oozing water and needed to be
rebuilt. Instead of rebuilding them, I opted to replace them with the
Shurflow variable speed pump and I'm in the process of installing it
now.

As with most things BB, there are unanticipated complications!

The existing plumbing uses gray tubing labeled "Thermoplastic tubing
1/2" [or 3/4" depending] (CTS-OD) 100 PSI at 180 F" It's connected
together with white plastic compression fittings that look like
nothing in any of the home centers around here.

Does anybody know what this is called and is there an online source
for the fittings?

Since the existing set up had 2 pumps and an expansion/pressure tank
that's not required for the set up with the variable speed pump, I
have a lot of pieces that aren't needed ... but I need some kind of
fittings that will let me hook up the threaded fittings on the pump
to a flexible tubing (to isolate the vibration of the pump according
to the instructions). I planned to use steel braided sink fittings
for the connections.

Any thoughts?

Just came in from plumbing some lines on my Cortez. http://www.flair-it.com. They make
the fittings that fit the polybutylene and PEX tubing. My local Ace caries them.

I found the Flair-It web site to work rather poorly ... but I was
successful in ordering what I needed from <http://www.pexconnection.com>

Apparently, PEX plumbing isn't permitted in the California building
code, so no one carries the tubing or related products locally. I
realize that the gray tubing used in my coach is probably
polybutylene -- a product that was manufactured from 1978 and
discontinued in 1995 due to significant litigation over premature
failures (in homes). The catalog from Pex Connection states that the
Flair-It fittings were first developed to work with polybutylene and
adapted to work with PEX.

I appreciate your response and it was a considerable aid in my
finding a source for the fittings so I can finish my pump replacement.
