Help with a 1984 PT-36
I'm looking for someone who can help me estimate the value of a coach I
want to buy. I'm very serious about buying and want to get all the
information I can beforehand.

Thanks, Keith

Keith,

Welcome to the WanderlodgeForum. Have you examined the Bird yourself
already? Or are you looking for someone to do a 'first pass'
inspection to see if it's worth going to see? If so, give us some
idea of where the coach is and we may have members nearby that can put
an eyeball on it. We also have a few members that provide
professional inspection services for a fee. Ralph Fullenwider and
Jeff Miller are two that provide good inspection service.

Good luck with the purchase.

To get someone to help you, it would be prudent to provide at least the
following information for the individual whom may try to help.

1. Name and town, name and town
2. Location of the rig you are interested in. (private or dealer)
3. Web site with pictures, description etc.

With the information, it is possible someone on this forum is familiar with the
specific coach you want to purchase. You just never know.

I knew nothing about a BB or a forum three years ago when I purchased my coach.
I made the correct decision, but at the time it was like the blind leading the
blind.

Thanks, I have not seen the coach. I live in San Diego and the
coach, #541 on birdconnection.com, is located in Richmond Michigan,
just north of Detroit. Yes, I'm looking for someone to do a "first
pass". I called and emailed Jeff but no response yet. I'm fairly
sure the coach is in good condition but really don't want to travel
to Michigan without having someone eyeball it for me if I can make
that happen. Tire date codes and that sort of stuff. Otherwise I'll
probably fly over and check it myself with the intention of driving
it back.

I would do an audit on the rig, but it's 8 hours from my home base one way.
That could get costly. Going by the ad description, it's been a long time since
the engine was checked. I would be curious about the condition of the hoses and
coolant. If the AC was changed to 134A six years ago, that's a good thing, but
I'll bet the Freon is out by now. The seller should be able to supply tire
information and verify the rig is road ready. It has been for sale for quite a
long time, that might mean something.

Just a note..... With it being located in a "winter wonderland" area you
definitely want someone who can thoroughly check out the systems to make sure
the coach has been properly winterized and you won't be dealing with leaks come
the spring thaw.

Like anything, with enough time and patience re-doing the plumbing is
"doable." However I gather from past postings on this topic that it is not a
good time.

Just went out to take a look a the birdconnection.com site and saw
that they had really changed their web site around. I believe that
Bird has been listed for sale for quite a while - maybe the price?

In any event, good luck.

I agree it's priced too high. I made him an offer which I expected
him to turn down, and he did. I have some additional photos of the
engine/battery compartment. Very clean, I mean very clean. He's the
second owner and it has been stored in a heated garage. He told me
he hasn't used it for a while but does drive it to keep things lubed
up. I'll make a counter offer but I believe it has been for sale so
long because of the price. We will either strike a deal we can both
agree on or not. Simple as that. I got nothing but time....

Keith, A 6V DD will slow to 35MPH on the grades of the 15N of
SanDiego. Drive a car up the grade at 35mph befor flying a plane at
400MPH. I love the classics and that bus looks good. but then again
in a pic, so do I.
