No Spring Forward-No Fall Back
Not Bird Stuff but hopefully useful

Congress passed the Energy Committee recommendation
to allow an EDT Extended Daylight Time moving ahead the
time 3 weeks to March 11 and back one week to Nov 4,
2007. This will be in effect for the United States and
Canada, Mexico has not adopted the change. Somehow
this is going to save millions of barrels of oil so they say.

If you have the latest Operating System (OS),Vista or XP
the registry within the OS will be corrected automatically
during receipt and install of the patches and hotfixes. If
you have Windows 2000 which receives these updates
the patch will not be included as it is a non-security item.

All other Microsoft OS'es will need to either be manually
advanced by the system clock or use an update tool known
as a file called TZedit.exe. There may be other fixes on
the internet but I would caution about using these as they
are an ideal way to introduce a virus. Microsoft has doubly
protected this file since development so I feel it is very safe.

There is another issue about Microsoft Outlook as far as
appointment scheduling but I am not involved so didn't give it
any attention.

The TZedit.exe utility package can be downloaded at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914387/ Wade through
all the garbage till about 2/3 down the page. There will be
a step-by-step explanation as well.

If you don't care to do this the computer time will need to be
reset a couple times a year. If you have a business that is
time stamped/dated things could get a little wild till things
straighten out. Maybe the banks vault would open and
close an hour earlier?? I don't know, we'll hear about them
in the news.

I don't know about Mac and Linux, possibly an issue there
as well.
