Blue Bird Migrates to More Competitive Market
*Georgia Firm's Wanderlodge Div. Transitioning to Dynamic
High/Middle of Pusher Sector *

Production is expected to begin in June on the redesigned Blue Bird
Wanderlodge from Blue Bird Coachworks Inc., Fort Valley, Ga.

The 2008 45-foot Wanderlodge, seen here as an artist's rendering,
is designed with revamped front and rear profiles, side-swinging cargo
doors and a new exterior lighting package.

The coach will be built on Blue Bird's proprietary 54,000-pound
GVWR bus chassis equipped with a 625-hp Cummins ISX diesel
pusher engine and will be 15 inches longer than its predecessors.

"We are stretching the body out to a full 45 feet, which allows us
to do some interesting things with the bathroom configurations and
also provide more closet space,'' said Fred Vandenberg, director
of motorhome sales and marketing.

Each coach will be custom built -- including floorplans, slideouts
and interior amenities.

"It makes it a little more difficult to build, but each coach is basically
a clean sheet of paper for each customer," Vandenberg said. "If the
customer has no preconceived notion of what they want, we can
give them some suggestions as a springboard."

When the new Wanderlodges are available this fall -- it takes four
to five months to build each coach -- retail prices will start at $745,000.

I should have mentioned that this was posted in
the 4/2/2007 edition of RVBusiness.

I know Ernie, but as a general bus enthusiast, I'm thrilled
to see Blue Bird Coachworks plan for the future. There's
a niche between high end SOB's (Monaco, Country Coach,
etc.) and Prevost conversions. The only other player in that
niche is Newell, and they seem to be doing well. Coachworks
should be able to eke out some of that market share. Maybe
then they can think about expanding their product line. I just
want them to survive.

Yes, I agree. We all should hope that BB Corp succeeds in the long term .
Reading their promos it seems the niche market BB is trying to reach is between
$800,000 and $1,000,000 for an new LXi. If I am incorrect please advise, I am
going with what I read. I cannot afford one but many people can.

Think about it this way. In 3-5 years these coaches will be on the market for
around $300,000 or so and will have less than 100,000 miles on them.

My coach when converted by Royale in 1990 and was very expensive for its' time,
it is still around with very few problems and it is in beautiful shape. A
testament to BB quality.

Problem is with age(not the BB) we are all running out of time. And that
stinks. Such is life. Know what I mean?

If I had the money for a brand new bird, I would desire a 38 footer
with no slides, good weight capacity, and good power to weight. I
don't beleive anyone is building a coach like that now.
