Back to towing
It would be interesting to run a survey of what type of towing gear
most people use on this site.

I have looked at all types and all kinds of vehicles and boy do they
run the gambit.

Is their anyway we could run a survey or questionier on this subject?
could be very interesting. Jon

Back to towing
Well, Jon, where theres a will, there is a way. I have towed my 85
Jeep CJ7 with Auto trans over 12 or 15K miles.. I use a Falcon 5200
tow bar, and installed a 2nd socket in each of the CJs tail lights..
Even if the Auto tranny could be towed, this action would burn up the
Dana 300 (gear driver) Transfer case.... So I installed a "Warn Full
Floating Rear Axel" complete with lockout hubs. Now, I simply tow
with the Trans in Park, T-Case in normal, and all 4 wheels freely
spinning..
This Warn axle has the advantage, for me, of being much stronger than
the stock setup.
Although Arnold's boys do not require it, I am looking into Toad brakes.

Back to towing
I second the motion for Jon's idea of organizing info on tow equipment and toads
and would also like to request a similar approach to the topic of insurance,
please.

When we were researching tow equipment a few years ago, it was extremely helpful
to read what others were using, but I don't know if we got such a large overview
of the topic.

Instead of a survey, how about a reference document in the database that
summarizes forum members' tow equip./toad info?--i.e., a form we individually
fill out with details on our tow equipment and toads and submit via the Website
that feeds into a cumulative table summarizing everyone's data. Also, would be
good to include a space for owners' comments. For example, a point I'd like to
make about our StowMaster with its whole moveable mechanism is how incredibly
easy it is to hook up/unhook the toad--most of the time Stew does the whole
thing himself--doesn't even need anyone else to eye-ball positioning the toad
(in our case, a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee). Might be good to also chart
percentages of the forum--how many use this, that, etc.

While we're at it, how about a similar document we can all help fill out
regarding insurance (year/type of coach, name of insurer, yearly rates,
liability terms, etc., etc.), please? I know we had a lot of questions on this
even before we bought our Bird, and I've since seen this topic come up time
after time on the forum--both among wannabe's and owners.

I think both topics would make for useful reference documents. Ernie, and forum
moderators, can you please cook up something like this in the Database section
of the site?

Thanks!
