Worn hydraulic hose.
Completed an enjoyable 3 days at Bolsa Chica State Beach on Friday
morning. Everything works as it should, no issues. Then I started the short drive home (about 50 miles). For whatever reason I was wathcing the coolant temp guage. It sayed at 190 for a while, then started marching up. All the way from Alabama it never went above 190. Now it was. I was on the 91 freeway by the weigh station when I pulled over (Curt will know where that is). To make a long story short one of the hydraulic hoses had worn through rubbing against some metal. No hydralics, no fan. Temp never went above 215. Had it towed to Valley Power Systems in Mira Loma ($825). The shop foreman looked at it and told me what was wrong. He suggested I call Hose Doctor and have the hose made up. I can do it right in his lot. If he did it he would call the same place and charge me much more. The bright side is that it didn't happen on the windy prairies of West Texas. Had I had the right materials I could have made it drivable. The hoses had been fairly recently replaced. I suppose that's some consolation. For a "nice" coincidence, about 5 years ago my '64 Jaguar roadster died in the exact same spot, and it had to be towed. Art Weatherly Riverside Ca '85 PT36 |
