Just purchased a SOB and was told to turn it

I would say, leave it on, keeps the batteries warm and when in float does very
little to the batteries.

If you're plugged in, then the inverters don't cause any problems --
and may actually be necessary as they usually are also battery
chargers. You do need to monitor the charging condition to ensure
that the batteries aren't overcharged.

As for the SOB, it depends on how the coach is wired. Probably they
can be left on if the coach is hooked to electricity. It's probably a
good idea (on both a WL and an SOB) to turn them off if the coach is
to sit unused for some time. Even better is to have a battery
isolation switch (as used on many boats) to disconnect the batteries
completely when the coach is going to be stored without an electric
hookup.

The battery chargers are separate from the inverters, even though
they are housed in the same unit they will activate anytime they
sense ac power from either shore power, or generator power regardless
whether or not you have the inverter on, or off. This is if your
using a remote panel which I assume you have.

Leaving the inverter switch on will cause units to invert once ac
current is not longer detected. The inverters will then take charge
of all currents assigned to them, ie electrical outlets, such as TV,
microwave, refrigerator, and so on. Check your manual to further see
what they will power. And, likewise if in the off position when ac
current is unplugged/shut off they will not power items listed above.

I normally leave mine in the off position unless I need to use them.

That is a hard call to make even between Wanderlodge's of various
models and years. inverters are set up different and many have after
market add ons. That would be a good question for bluebox
documentation unique to the coach and the inverter appliance tech
hotline.

I shut my inverters off when not in use because I am not sure of
protocall and my bus sits for up to 4 weeks at a time.

Greg, I agree there are different set-ups and applications for SOB's
and different year Birds ..if were talking about a 03 LXi like Donny
owns, it should operate as I described and then some. Of course I'm
like you, I like to check out the Blue box, well, in my case a Black
box.
