Oil Temperature

Anyone know where the oil temp sensor is located. Need to know what
the temp guage is reading. After a long idle checking flow on
radiator, I have a reading of 170F on guage and 150F on the oil pan.
Which is more likely the accurate temperature?

You CANNOT get a diesel up to temp by idleing it>you will do it no good!

Mine is located on top of the oil filter housing on the road side of the engine.
I would guess both are probably close because of where the temperatures are
measured. swag!!!

Both are accurate and relative to a monitored change. the 170 may be
reading closer to the friction and thus a quicker indicator of stress.
the pan may be the last place oil temp signals friction stress, the
metal pan may also lose heat to the cast block.

Its up above the starter closer to the tranny remote mounted. some
may be hooked up to the oilfilter housing
